my buddy who's also a TDI'er like us.
he has Jetta sedan MT. and lives in C-bad as well. i think he has '10 with aobut 28 K miles. all HW commuting to HB and SD.
but he had recently had 2nd child, and is now wishing he got a wagon for the extra room. *(he surfs alot)
who knows, maybe if he wants to upsize to a wagon, his Jetta might just be right fit for you. :D
Thanks Roman - send me a PM if your buddy is looking to sell.

I'm feeling incredibly blessed today. Yesterday on the way to work, my Jetta TDi Cup car was totaled.
Traffic slowed VERY quickly, and as I was reaching a panic stop, i was just about to think "that was close", when I was hit from a driver at full speed from behind. I was thrust into a car ahead of me and then shot across 3 additional lanes of traffic getting hit 2 more times on the left side of the car before coming to rest on the barrier. 6 cars involved - everyone walked away. God bless German Engineering....and His plan.

ill ask him when i talk to him next time,
and if he is looking to sell, ill let you know.
i know that he's been looking into JSW TDI, so if he ends up getting it, he'll have to sell Jetta for sure

Good thing you are O.K.

I think people might think I'm a little whacked, but when traffic slows down suddenly, I will put my 4-ways on for a few seconds to make sure the cars behind me notice I have slowed down.

It's not whacked,I tap my brakes a couple of times to get other drivers attention.VW has a feature when the ABS is activate the 4-ways come on and turn off when you let off the brake peddel.Need VCDS to turn it on.

I have that feature on via vagcom in my car. My BMW lit the rear fogs under a braking instance like that. I used to ride with the rear fogs on to kep people off my decklid. Makes them think you are a brake rider.

On a side note - hooray for idiots. This is what happens when you are forced to drive with them. Sometimes I feel like I want to go out and buy the biggest POS 70's caddy or olds etc I so can blast the brake slamming idiot in front of me into the next dimension.

Theres no such thing as a blanced application of the brake pedal these days. People either do 15 over or 10 under the speed limit. There's no middle ground. Brake application seems to be done with both feet while pulling back on the wheel for more leverage. This is the result. Happens on I-95 out here all the time.

Glad you're OK.

I do it too, I'd love to set up a adjustable "decelerometer" to trigger the 4 ways, triggering the ABS on dry pavement takes some violent deceleration, I've actually never triggered the ABS on dry pavement.

You have to wonder if texting might have been involved. I like to tap my brakes to get attention in a similar situation.

One person ruined the daily drive for thousands, what difference does it make if the person was Asian, or a blond woman, or whatever. The more important question is, did he/she have insurance? Probably, but they are no fun to deal with.

I did this last Wednesday night. It was snowing the ground on rt101 (2 lane highway) starting accumulating and there were no DOT trucks out treating the road. I come around a bend and see brake lights, and people slowing down from 50 to about 10 mph, there’s a few cars probably 50 yards behind me. I start slowing down with without my brakes as I’m about 200 yds away from the slower traffic. I flick on the 4 ways and gradually approach the slower traffic. In my rear view mirror I see a small Honda or Toyota start to spin out of control ever so slowly, they were doing around 30 or so and did a 270 and eventually stopped 20 feet behind me. Luckily there was no one in the lane next to them. No harm no foul but still if you see brake lights 200 yards away, why do you have to wait till the last minute to slow down or jam on the brakes?

Looks like the safety zones did their job, congrats on not being badly hurt Give it a few days for the aftershock pain to start, and hopefully you don't have any lingering issues. Shame to lose a nice car, but better the car than you.

I nearly got clobbered by an Escalade on 85 in Silicon Valley last summer. We all came to a sudden stop. It was so sudden, I was looking at the 350Z in front of me and preparing to hit. With about 12 feet left, I jerked the wheel left and let go of the brakes - sailed to the left in the carpool lane.

As soon as I did, the Corolla behind me managed to stop a few feet from the car I almost plowed into.

Then - BAM! An Escalade hit the Corolla, the Corolla hit the Z...

Even if I did stop - I would have been nailed.

I got to the office, served my 2-week notice, and left that ****ty town for good.

aaronazevedo - I'll bet you're sore. Being sore is way better than waking up in a hospital though, or worse. Amazing everyone could walk away. Things usually don't happen this way.

These pic's are eye opening. Looking at the larger album you had one sweet ride. It's a comfort to understand how safe these cars are. Good Luck finding a worthy replacement.

Oh man I feel for you. Looks like that was San Clemente-ish. Traffic through San Clemente always sucks. Bunch of tourists and old retirees that forget how to drive on the freeway and slow way down around there. You get an interface of some traffic moving at 75/80 (the norm for I-5) and old farts moving in the left lanes at 55-65. I used to do that I-5 drive a lot before I moved out here to Denver.

Hope it all works out for you in the end. Glad you could walk away from that one.

That's some funny comments right there!

"Bunch of tourists and old retirees that forget how to drive on the freeway and slow way down around there."

Some never knew how to drive so there's nothing for them to forget.

"and old farts moving in the left lanes at 55-65"

It's not just the old farts, have you read how some folks on this forum drive below the posted speed limit to save on fuel? Forget the flow of traffic and the jams they can cause, it's all about them. I guess they could be old farts though.

Wow, glad to see (my exact car sans spoiler) will hold up, but more importantly that you're alright!

Let us know if you get the vehicle/a change to scavenge off of it, those drilled/slotted rotors still looks nice, I could take those off your hands :D
