Engineers unite! My fiancee wants me to teach her how to drive stick, but she doesn't want to commit to the classroom time :D

Just as an FYI, if you aren't using A/C I dont think you need the coolant fans. I just passed 100,000kms with mine 2 weeks ago and have yet to see mine go past 88C on the gauge. The last week has been over 30C everyday and still its stayed right at 88C. But that being said I guess having them is never going to hurt.
Yes, I've noticed the Ranger behaves the same way as my Jetta (which does exactly as you describe) except runs slightly higher. I'm not sure what is causing it but it is rock solid at 197F regardless of driving or ambient (been fairly hot here recently in the mid 90s). Thermostat tolerance? Rad cap pressure too low? Pump cavitation due to eliminated reservoir line?

Anyway, I'm not too concerned about the cooling system. It maintained 204-206 while towing these in 90F heat last weekend. :)

Mileage report

I've been commuting with it for a while now and have put on a couple tanks driving a 50/50 mix of city highway with max speed of 65mph. I always fill right to the brim as it really is the most accurate way to fill up. The problem with this method, my additional capacity and the fact that the diesel foams pretty badly means it takes me almost 10min to fill up the truck. I'm thinking the foam is the result of the anti-siphon screen in the bottom of the fill tube? I'm definitely going to remove this bad boy if that is the case.

Anyway, here are my first few tanks:
642.1 miles on 16.636gal = 38.6mpg
587.6 miles on 14.997gal = 39.2mpg
304.5 miles on 9.616gal = 31.7mpg

Last one was towing the Jettas around.

That's so cool. Have you had anyone talk to you at the pumps yet?

Lol. That is an old pic of my first fill up. I've been driving around in an empty truck but I have been driving like an idiot (playing with my new toy) and haven't been too concerned with mileage.

very cool Nick :).... you're putting her straight to work !.... are those two jettas new purchases ?
Sort of. Just picked up the mk3 for my Eurovan. Bought the mk4 last year off another member as well. Going to steal some parts off it to fix up Deafbug's beetles.

It could have tube protrusion like the Ford 7.3L tank has. Before I cut the tubes off mine it took several minutes to top off, now it takes 1-2 squirts after the pump clicks off. Here is a link with pics of the tubes in the 7.3 tank. http://www.guzzle7pt3.com/harpoon.php

No problem. I'm in the planning stages now so it'll be a while before I pull it off the road.

An adapter plate for a Eurovan? The inline-4s bolt right up...

not to the factory vr6 transmission, and even if they did, the gear ratios wold be way ot of whack for a TDI

we need to get ahold of a eurovan specific 5 speed box (not easily found in the states after 1994?-5? then you get to change its gear ratios, then source or fabricate your own I4 engine side motor mounting (never sold in the states)

yes, it bolts up, but sourcing the correct 5 speed parts and motor mounts is not easy here.

I believe he was asking about a TDI to Ranger adapter plate. ;)

Prices will be competitive with ACME. I'm not sure I'll be offering harnesses.

My best so far was a trucker at the card lock(where I always fill due to when I'm working)
He says as I pull up to the pump right across from him. "whoa whoa there son, yer at the big boy pumps here, You need to go over there! (*Points at the gas section of the card lock*)
I said to him Dont worry big trucker buddy, we burn the same go juice!

I really wish mine could accommodate the large nozzle without an adapter. Not because it's really necessary but, because I want to. There are a few places it would help me where I could just pump and go. As opposed to waiting for the car size diesel pumps to free up. If possible, it would be a mod I would consider.

After driving my dad's 2000 ranger 2.5L 5spd for the last week or so, that looks like monumental torque. Yours looks petty fancy with the carpet and tach and chrome bumper! I bet it even has cruise!

It does have cruise albeit a little hokey at the moment. I yanked the stalk from the donor car and have it draped over the steering column. Works for now.

I might have to connect with you to do some baseline testing. Would your dad be willing to let you do a 0-60, dyno, etc?

It moves nicely, can you remind us of any power mods?
At the moment my only power mod is a Malone stage 1 tune. Yes, I have a PD150 intake and FMIC but I doubt they have any effect on power at this point. Stock 10mm pump and .184 nozzles. I'm looking at some R520's as my next step. Yes, I have a couple 11mm pumps laying around but realistically a nozzle swap would be the next logical (and fiscal) step.
