TDI Mechanic Needed Jacksonville, Florida

If anyone can make a recommendation, for a mechanic, in the Jacksonville/Orange Park area I would appreciate it. Looking for someone for routine maintenace and perhaps some mods in the future. I have sent emails to the local V-Dub clubs with no response so far.

I have a 2001 Golf TDI and I can tell you from bitter personal experience that you will be the best mechanic you can find for normal maintenance items.

Reviewing my bills for the past 4 years, I have spent about $3000 at the dealership and with the exception of a timing belt change, everything I paid for turns out to be something I have been able to learn to do myself for about 1/3 the price.

Some examples:
Glow plug r/r, minimum 100 from stealership, 20 bucks doing it here.
Oil Change them 59, me 30.
Just gets worse from there, I don't even want to talk about brakes.


I live in Titusville, so am not that far away. As I'm climbing this learning curve anyway, I'd be happy to help. I'd recommend you read all the how to's here and see if you agree that it's easier/better to become a diyer.

Unless you really have no mechanical aptitude, I'd have to agree with DavidML... Routine stuff (oil, filters, brakes) are really simple to do with a minimal investment in tools... for the "serious" stuff such as a timing belt, a trip to one of the TDI-Club related gurus is certainly worth the investment in time!! There are 2 that aren't terribly far away - one in Tampa, the other around Atlanta... yes, I know, they're not around the corner, but... many folks around here have driven much farther for timing belts and suspensions...

Think about it... this website's a goldmine of information, and we can guide you every step of the way !!
