TDI Mechanic in SC PA

I'm in a bit of a pickle.. It appears my TDI warranty ran out due to mileage and now I'm on the hook for a 0401/2002 where the EGR/DPF needs replaced (have soot in the tailpipe). I don't have a VCSD so I took it to the dealer since they have done on/off work for my car but between the DPF/EGR/Timing Belt interval, I'm up to 5-6K worth of work... I'm not mechanically inclined enough to have at it so I'm hoping some here may have suggestions of the typical cost from a non-VW mechanic and where one might be in the south-central PA area. The cars at 130,400 miles and the fix I believe was around 80-90K would have to check the vin again..

Thanks for the info. With a cracked/leaking DPF (as VW says) I'm sure how far I should be driving. Looks like Sunbury would be the closest one-way ticket. Is anyone closer to Adams/York County PA that you know of?

Before anything else, are you certain you are out warranty- the Emissions Settlement Warranty? Check your VIN in the VW website, and double check your paperwork. If the Mk6 gets 4 years / 50,000 miles from the emissions modification, you would be good? Otherwise...

German Diesel Motorworks is north of Harrisburg (Les, formerly Diesel Dubs), but GDM will be notably more expensive than the others. I have not been to GDM, just talked to them by phone or past GTG's. Dennis Marquette also runs a TDI parts service (Marquette Automotive, see his thread), so that can also be a savings. I trust him and Mike and Roman, which is often priceless. I would just call them and talk things over, as each has different costs and situations. If the car is just going one-way for service, the mileage difference shouldn't be a show-stopper. I'm can't speak to the Mk6, but be prepared for a possible wait for parts or to pick up the car, as it might not be a same-day solution. Lastly, many VW dealers will give you inaccurate information, so you might have to start from scratch (a VCDS scan and diagnostics) with someone new.

This is what I got... could have sworn it was at a higher milage when I got it done.


The vehicle has an Extended Emissions Warranty that runs for 10 years or 120,000 miles from the original in-service date. Please see your VW dealership for additional information including the vehicle's in-service date.

In addition, and concurrently, the Extended Emissions Warranty runs for 4 years or 48,000 miles (whichever occurs first) from the date of modification or first dealer resale post-modification. Your vehicle was modified on May 24, 2018 and 71,874 miles. Please see your VW dealership for additional information on the vehicle's post-modification dealer re-sale date.

Thanks for the information too will reach out just to talk for now. Almost feel like I should get a VCSD myself but not being mechanically inclined it might be a wash but I feel like my vdub hasn't properly regened since the modifications... I used to know when it would typically happen... haven't had a good one that I recall since then but I question that too I shouldn't be replacing this because I've been driving the car properly, right?

So this is one of the recalled TDIs that VW had to reprogram for the emissions issue? The extended warranty is pretty poor...only 12K miles a year!
I was considering getting one of these but after reading this post and others...I'm fixing my old ones!
