UPDATE: Thanks for the replies guys. I ended up grabbing a new T for the fuel filter and a new filter, which I should have already had with me.. Anyways shout out to Kauth & Mayeur auto in Peoria, IL. He said the parts have been on his shelf for years collecting dust. I changed out the T and immediately found a destroyed o ring on the old one.. we are all good now and the car is running like a top! I should have changed it instead of just doing the o rings when I did the filter.
Ok, so here’s the real part.. for months upon months I have had a ticking sound while the motor was at temp. Sounded fine when cold. I could not for the life of me figure out what it was. Checked injectors, did a double oil change, played around with iq, inspected cam, replaced vacuum pump, stethoscope on everything..still ticking… I was worried it was internal like piston slap or valves… i even had others listen and always got “sounds like a tdi”. Rest assured, the ticking is GONE! I can’t believe it. So either the check valve was bad or on its way out, causing a tick at the valve, or was actually very slightly leaking air into the system and causing a tick at the injectors, but not enough to lose prime while sitting. All in all good learning experience. Love these damn tdis. I’m in La Plata, MO now and only fueled up twice so far, from Massachusetts!
