Hey all, on a road trip right now across the Midwest. Heading through Ohio now with destination of Utah. Alh golf. Was wondering if any gurus out there wouldn’t mind me stopping by. Car is running good but seems to be losing prime ever so slightly. Shes been turning over a for a little longer after sitting. Just started the past 2 or 3 days. I’ll think I’ll make it to where I can wrench a bit with my buddy once I get to Colorado, but would be cool to have a fellow tdi enthusiast give her a look see and maybe even be able to point out some things I can add to the to do list. Been putting a lot of love into her in the past year. Let me know!

Update: definitely a lot more air than normal in the clear line from filter. Air in system for sure. Might try and find a fuel filter with gaskets for the t somewhere and throw it in tonight. If this doesn’t do the trick then I suspect it’s time to change the fuel lines. They are showing some signs of age

I’m in SE Indiana about 45 minutes NW of Cincinnati Ohio and about 90 minutes SE of Indianapolis Indiana along I-74.

I can’t offer anything in the terms of parts etc. but can offer a place to pull over for you to wrench. I have most basic tools but no garage. Still if it helps let me know.

UPDATE: Thanks for the replies guys. I ended up grabbing a new T for the fuel filter and a new filter, which I should have already had with me.. Anyways shout out to Kauth & Mayeur auto in Peoria, IL. He said the parts have been on his shelf for years collecting dust. I changed out the T and immediately found a destroyed o ring on the old one.. we are all good now and the car is running like a top! I should have changed it instead of just doing the o rings when I did the filter.

Ok, so here’s the real part.. for months upon months I have had a ticking sound while the motor was at temp. Sounded fine when cold. I could not for the life of me figure out what it was. Checked injectors, did a double oil change, played around with iq, inspected cam, replaced vacuum pump, stethoscope on everything..still ticking… I was worried it was internal like piston slap or valves… i even had others listen and always got “sounds like a tdi”. Rest assured, the ticking is GONE! I can’t believe it. So either the check valve was bad or on its way out, causing a tick at the valve, or was actually very slightly leaking air into the system and causing a tick at the injectors, but not enough to lose prime while sitting. All in all good learning experience. Love these damn tdis. I’m in La Plata, MO now and only fueled up twice so far, from Massachusetts!
