Went to the dealership to pick up 507.00 oil for my 2011 TDI CR. In the past I received 5w-30 or 0w-30. This time I was given 5w-40 with a 502.00 / 505.00 rating. When questioning the technician, he said this is what VW now uses in CR TDIs and he’s personally been using it in his 2013 tdi with no issues. Is this acceptable, or is it bullshit? I think it’s BS, but want some feedback before returning the oil. Anyone have this experience?

Hi,

Thank you for the question, you are correct the oil they've supplied is not suitable. The main issue you have is the CR will be fitted with a Diesel Particulate Filter which requires the VW507 approval for its oil to pass through it, the 502 / 505 won't have the same characteristics.

I would suggest emptying the fluid and changing it over to a 507 as soon as you can.

I'll add a link below for you on options we have

Jack

Volkswagen switched over to their own branded 507 spec 0w/30. Certianly looks like a Mobil 1 bottle though....but yes it must say 507 and by this time all the dealer stock 5w/30 should be long gone.

You should return it and pick up this:

On a side note, I have been using the VW 0w/30 for about 30,000 miles and have noticed more oil consumption then with Castrol 5w/30. I plan to switch oils next interval.

I see a similarity between your name and the site you posted. If that site is yours you must become an approved vendor here to advertise like that.

Just had this problem Monday at dealer. Took it in for oil and filter change, was Castrol 5w-30 for the 1st 5. The 60k was first one I think with the 0w-30. This oil change, my window sticker says 0w-30, but my invoice says 5w-40 bulk VW Genuine oil, part # GE555401BDSP, which is the 502 00/504 00 spec. Replied to their service "managers" email yesterday saying I want re-do with proper oil, no call back yet.....

Well, at least you know what oil was put in your car at the dealer. The oil from my dealer is part #G-E55-030-1D-DSP. No idea what the spec is on this and can’t find any info. I’m concerned that it’s not the same oil as the oil that ends in “1Q-DSP”, which is the new 507 0-30 oil.
