In all honesty, we'd probably want to keep the car as close to stock as possible. I may put some manual trans injectors in there, and it already has a genuine Volkswagen skidplate.

How much do they want for the car? How much would it cost to untooefing it.

The car is mine, it was given to me by the owner "for parts". Of course, I cannot sleep soundly at night knowing I parted out a perfectly good car that could be put back into useable service. So that won't happen.

I'll fix it myself if I have to, but would much rather the community come together and bring this little Bug back to life.

So, since we've been able to hit the ground running (sort of) with a net investment of $0, maybe we can make this happen.

I'm working on scraping enough ALH bits together to build one from scratch, and working on getting a good used 01M (yeah, yeah, I know, stop laughing...) but it will still need a lot more TLC.

What I know for sure it needs:

ABS module assembly (I need to get the P/N, but I think it just fits the 2000 and early 2001)
engine or engine parts (it has a fairly new reman injection pump on it already)
transmission
wheels or wheelcovers
tires
front bumper cover
some minor body work (we have any body men here?)
door panels

I have an ABS pump from my 2000 NB that was totaled, it is just sitting on a shelf in the shop. Let me know if you need it.

I know for certain I need the ABS module, and if it is from a 2000 Beetle then it will be the correct one, there are no VIN splits for 2000 that I could find.

And whitedog, I found a good ALH block in my Archives, but no crankshaft. So if you have one of those that is good, we can get the engine build started.

I found 3 pistons, but not sure yet which measuring group/brand they are, and would need to measure the block bore to be sure which ones I'll need anyways. Most ALHs used the smaller pistons from the factory, though, 79.44mm.

Talking to boss now, we may get the car in the shop's name for now since we are a dealer and can more easily reassign to the eventual owner. I think that will be the easiest. I'm not sure about our Canadian members, though.

Just found a gearbox for $700, too. Not too bad for a working 01M for an ALH.

I have an ALH crankshaft that needs to have one journal cut.. I'm pretty sure undersize rod bearings are available..

As far as I know, the one I have is ready to go. I can ship it and if it works fine, if not he has a backup.

Not sure what years it fits.

It has the large single plug in on the side, not multiple.

If wandlc's ABS unit falls through, nice to know we have a backup. I really would like this car to have functional ABS.

I may try and get the powertrain out next week. I really need a body guy to help out with some of the cosmetics.... certainly TDIclub has someone that can volunteer some time?

Notice the size of the box. A Bentley manual was shipped to me in that. Just a Bentley.
