Has anyone used a catch can like this for their ccv valve or does anyone have a good set for this I don’t really wanna just run a hose form the ccv to the ground and I don’t wanna run it to the intake or the exhaust I could do the hose to the atmosphere but I think I’d rather do a catch can, just wanna see if anyone els has used this one before and I was just curious if this one was big enough like if it would fill up fast or not and if it freezes up or not in the winter.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with a Catch Can.

With the ULSD and the EGR Mod via VCDS to reduce the duty cycle, there will be very little soot accumulation inside the Intake.
As for oil accumulation in the Intercooler, taking the RPMs up to 3400 -3600 in 1st through 3rd and/or fourth gears briskly two or three times per tank of fuel will keep it blown-out. Maximum boost is generally in that RPM range. That's how I did it with my 2000 Jetta. I gave the car to my son a little over ten years ago at about 335k miles on the odometer. It has over 400k miles on it now. It still turns 49 to 51 MPG tank after tank.

I have an E-vac system on the ALH engine in my '84 Vanagon. It works just fine. Of course, it was much easier to set-up on my Van than on a Jetta/Golf unless you do a muffler delete. The E-vac will not work in front of the CAT or muffler or at least it would not in my case.

not worth the complication. just let the engine eat it (and combust it) and drive it like andy said. don't baby it (all the time). years ago i put one in, barely ever any oil collected in it. after a few years i just took it out. silly thing. just keep an eye on oil level every few thousand miles

Ok so should I just put a heater hose on the ccv and just run it to the ground or pipe it into my intake.

The OE CCV set-up has a heater in it, if I remember correctly.

What if you don’t run a heater in it and just run it down the the ground or will it freeze and have problems.

I have been running the "elephant hose" for over 20 years and never had a freeze up problem. Also, depending on where it dumps out, you get the added benefit of rust prevention. Search "elephant hose" title only, and you will find lots of info.

yah, the ccv heater is totally useless. i have deleted mine for years also, no freezing issues, even in northern MN with -25F actual temps. elephant hose or connected to the intake.

the tiny amount of oil going into the intake is harmess, unless you're running really high boost, it's best to just have it go back into the intake where it gets burned, i think.

It makes a mess. I am working on one with that mod right now and all the rubber that has come into contact with the grubby black oil and dirt is swollen badly.
It was dumping in front of the engine since 1999.5.

Talked the owner into putting the CCV tube back on.
Also left drips on my shop floor.

Yeah, I agree with JETaah.

There is no way in hell I'd do an elephant trunk. The mess on the bottom of the car isn't worth any benefit this mod might provide,

used to run my ccv dumped into a gallon jug shoved next to the oil filter, about a foot of 5/8" hose
the pulsation of crankcase vacuum was pulling sand up the hose
if you do dump it to atmosphere, run some sort of filter inline

mine's back into the intake again, cardboard up front and a lack of the intake snorkel keeps it from freezing when it is very cold

More than I need, less than I want
On my Toyota truck with an ALH the hose was installed upstream of the air filter. I put it into a small plastic jar and put that jar inside a large plastic PB jar with a lid. It was a quick fix upon noticing that, still operating that way. Outside of moly CV grease, used diese motor oil is about the messiest thing out there.
Our refuse trucks with C7's had those dumping out the bottom. It kept the salt from eating the asphalt.
