Tarrif BS and parts...

Not a political comment tho the recent Tarrif BS has got us Canadians waiving flags allot more than normal.... I'm in Canada, always relied on IDP for my parts. Anyone out there in Canada seeing any issues with getting parts from the US? I'm sure this on/off/double/on B's is making the process unpredictable.

Trying to keep the process simple so I did look for a Canadian option, came across "Germanoem.ca", never used them before, (I did send them a question, never heard back... So not a good start🙄)...

Going to change a tranny and would like to have a few parts on hand for the project...

Thanks

I ordered my recent timing belt kit and few extra things from germanoem. I got the Timing Belt 2.0 Kit. Had a great experience. They even emailed me before shipping my order to confirm my VIN to make sure I was getting the right parts. Shipping was reasonable and arrived when expected (this was BEFORE the postal strike ;) )

That's surprising, Germanoem has been my first choice for years and they have always responded promptly to emails. I also use Roseland.

More Canadian recommendations in this thread:

Brian at Roseland Technology Services is fantastic: https://roselandtech.ca/

When they have one of their frequent sales I will also use GermanParts, with excellent results so far: https://germanparts.ca/

They ship but also have over 20 local pick-up facilities.

Have occasionally tracked down tricky OEM stuff at German OEM: https://germanoem.ca/

I used germanparts all the time when I had my E30. They had access to a lot of stuff. I was annoyed they didn't reopen their storefront after the pandemic though. Haven't tried Roseland yet.

After adding shipping, exchange rate, sales tax, and brokerage fees it is almost always more expensive to order from south of the border.

I may add concept1 in Calgary is good as well. I have bought some stuff of them and have never had an issue.

I just ordered a bunch of stuff ($600USD worth) from CascadeGerman and had it delivered to Point Roberts, WA, where I'd guess 90% of the local economy is Canadians picking up US goods (look at a map, kids).

Anything valued under ~$200, usually they just wave you through. Today, though, I knew I'd be going inside to pay the taxes and whatever duties. Don't recall being asked this before, but was asked the country of origin and so I was quick to point out that only the little Mk4 armrest hinge thingy was of US origin ($22), but everything else was from the EU.

Turns out: No duty (just the regular PST/GST of 12% total) on the $22 US origin part; roughly 6% duty, plus the taxes, on the EU stuff.
Whether that will still be the case a week or month from now.... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That's because Canada honors USMCA, unlike a signatory I won't name.

The owner of the Point Roberts, WA supermarket was interviewed on the news last night along with several other local business people. They are laying off staff and do not expect their businesses to survive in the current climate.

( Small update.... )

Germanoem solved some of the stuff need for the tranny swap, provided a transmission and dog bone mount bolt kit but the transmission bolt kit did not included the M10 x 80 (transmission to transmission mount bracket)... stupid "always replace" bolts drive me nuts! ;-) Fortunately, Roseland came to the rescue (pretty good with the flat rate $20 shipping). Luc clutch via Amazon.ca was the best deal that I could find @ $390 (free ship).... Next couple week and I will enjoy the pleasure of doing a tranny swap and finding out if I lucked out and have a good used transmission!

Cheers

Thanks for the update.

Quick question on the Luc kit from Amazon: Luc 17-050, came with the flywheel, right? I ask because I'm about to go there and the pictures (at least the one I found) don't show the flywheel, although all the reviews mention it and Luc's website says it's a complete kit, preinstalled etc etc.

Just did 2 separate orders for Roseland and German OEM on the weekend. Hopefully all can be fulfilled!
