I have searched throught the threads and online, but wanted to gain the opinion of the masses...

I put the aftermarket door sills on our new tdi and my wife hates them. I think they look great myself, but she wants me to remove them. What is the best way to get them off without damaging the paint. I believe they were stuck down with double sided tape.

JT, grab a hair dryer and see if you can slowly "peel" them off. You may be able to re-sell them.

Welcome aboard !!

Thank you for the warm welcome, and advice! Thats what I was planning on doing, but my fear is that it will have left a residue underneath. I am concerned on what product to apply to remove the residue, yet not damage the paint.

Reselling them would not be a bad option if I can get them off undamaged..

Cheers

I purchased tar/insect remover which is safe for one's paint but it does a killer job of removing tar, tree sap etc. Try that.

When people want to de-badge their tailgates, they usually use dental floss to cut through the double-sided tape with a sawing motion. That might work if you can get dental floss under the sill plates. If that doesn't work, there are some plastic putty knives, sometimes used for things like applying Bondo, that have a chiseled end to them, and might be used to cut through the double-sided tape without marring the paint.

I use Goo Gone to remove the stick-um.
