Anyone using the H7 Sylvania headlight insert. Burning through them on either side at about 6 mo. intervals. At $26.00 each a little expensive. Never handle with bare hands and no blown fuses. Any ideas or just made in China enough said?
Any input appreciated. Thnks

If the bulbs are the Silverstars or any other of the +...% line then they are garbage and known to burn out quick. I'd recommend some Philips x-treme vision or the GE nighthawks as long as they don't have any blue tinting on the bulb. Even better are the Osram Rally bulbs. :)

Another thing to watch out for is excessive shock to the bulbs when they are on or still hot, i.e. closing the hood when they're on or if your regular route is full of pot holes. The bulb filament is just a wee little metal spring and it gets super hot when it is on, any big vibrations will cause them to break. Found this out the hard way on a brand new set of the Silverstars when I shut the hood and they were on.

Plus, as noted on the package, those bulbs do not have a very long life to begin with. If you simply must have that white light, you'll have to deal with the short life span. In the long run it might be cheaper to use longer lasting bulbs and put in a nice set of driving lights for additional lumens on the road.

I now run the Osram Night Breakers in my Golf; big improvement. I've only had them in for a few months.

I like you would have to buy replacements every few months now I just go with cheap bulbs. YMMV

The Sylvanias are awful. Ran through many of them quickly on my Golf. I vaguely recall having good luck with Philips.

If they are available in 9007 (HB5) then yes. Another good bulb, and available in 9007 is the Philips X-treme Power.

yeah seems like the philips x treme power is the best for the 04.

how hard are these to install? Id imagine you need to take the whole frond end of the car apart to access them... just like any vw part!

Nope, just take the back cover of the headlight off and the bulb is right there. On the driver's side there is a cover over the headlight itself, two screws and it comes off, then its just the same procedure as the passenger headlight.

Please look at the back of the package on the bulbs. The brighter lights come with the disclaimer and approximate life. Brighter lights shorter life.
Choose what meets your needs accordingly.
