Searching feverishly for a good deal
Originally posted this in the MK4 forum, but no takers. So, I thought I might get a better response here.

I'm considering swapping out my auto for a 5 speed in my 2000 Golf TDI. Sadly, the first part is trying to find all the little parts to pull it off, and of course 5-speed TDI's are scavenged pretty quickly when they're parted out.

So, I'm considering an alternative.. there's a wrecked '03 Golf 1.8T at a yard near me. Do we think the mechanism type parts would swap over to my TDI? Things like... clutch pedal, master & slave cylinders? Gear shifter?? Axles??

I'm going to stick to the real thing when it comes to the trans, clutch and flywheel. But, I thought these harder to find parts might transfer over from the gassers.

What does everyone think? (...or should I say "know")

Thanks in advance guys!!

That's kind of what I was thinking, but you just never know. Who knows what engineers do behind closed doors, right?

I appreciate the help, Man.

No TDIs Currently, I have an R36 Corrado. I've had an ALH Corrado swap, AHU Corrado swap and 2003 TDI Jetta
The parts are all very similar. If you did run the 20v or Vr6 axles you would just need to get the output flanges from the 20v or VR6 transmission and these will bolt right into the TDI transmission.

the 20V and 2L starters will work but might be weaker and have issue s with a TDI motor. You would need to research the part numbers.

The VR6 starter will not work as far as I'm aware.

Then everything other then the transmission should swap straight over.

This swap has been done before you might want to search the archives here or on the Vortex for other's experiances.
