Don't know where to start and looking for suggestions.....310K Miles new rubber (NICE!) and now trying to eliminate the clunking noises in front and rear. I have read the about sub-frame bolts and other solutions, but what should be the first area that I look at? Bushings? Control Arm? Subframe? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Suggested part numbers / suppliers would be appreciated as well.

Thanks in advance!!

I think you have to go look

I know a couple places will sell shotgun kits. everything it could possibly be, so you are set. basically a new suspension.

all depends how much you like the car and if you want to put some $$ in for the next 300k, or just want to make it to winter.

I had some clunks and general slop. Installed Koni fsd with original stock springs, new mounts, control arm bushings and sway end links. Clunks are gone and the car feels new. I think the front strut mounts and rear control arm bushings were the most tired.

I don't think sway bushings are replaceable on mk5?

Thanks for the suggestions. I have new sway bar bushings and control arm bushings, but was really concerned if I should be looking at sub-frame issues. I intend to take a look this weekend and will try to post on what I find / solve.

clunks on bumps

I thought there as a shock issue or maybe the lower control arm bushings so I ordered parts. While I was spraying the bolts for easy removal I noticed a broken front spring - UGH. We have 2 '02 golfs and now this is the 5th broken spring. Where are these thinks made? Look at these prices- $159 to $171 each at dealers VS $50 from ID Parts.

Note to all --> learned in the middle of dropping the sub-frame. You cannot do this properly unless the vehicle is not under load. Must have on car-jacks/hydraulic jacks/etc. Tried to drop the sub-frame and everything started moving. Had the car on ramps. Note to self: Wake-up! Not the end of the world, just had to spend a lot of time trying to get things re-aligned.

Too funny GL I will make sure to share my log-in information to ensure that in my untimely passing, somebody can continue to monitor my account.
