FFS, My TDi has 80k miles on it using 505.00 and I have no issues. I'm even shortening the OCI to an even 5k miles to be safe. 505.00 is cheaper than 505.01 and I'm out of warranty anyway. If you leave your oil in for a year or 15k miles, that's your choice (gamble). From all the threads I've read on this and other sites, 505.00 is still widely used in Europe and is more avail. There's no one right answer. VW Group is notorious for leading people back to the dealer any way possible and avoiding ANY warranty work. From casting unique tools for DIY jobs and publishing bulletins with service supplements to scare people out of voiding warranty. Are you telling me some bloke in a banana republic even knows 505.00 from 505.01? I've been in taxis all over Europe and never got the same answer twice before getting a TDi again. Just change the oil in half the reco OCI and you'll be safe. The cam failure is a design flaw and no oil can help it. VW won't admit a design flaw and blaming oil is better since they're not in the oil biz. Just avoid burning the engine and drive it like a diesel and not a gas car (shift at peak toque and don't bother going past 3700 rpm ever). Done. My 1994 Golf TDi drank 10w30, 15w50 and even 5w50 until the electrics made me sell it. No issues ever with the engine. It was just made in Mexico and those were poor years for VW quality there.
