Hi there,

For fellow Ontario members, Sunoco sent me an e-mail indicating their first location selling Diesel Gold.

Hello everyone
I am happy to announce that Sunoco Gold Diesel, our premium diesel with higher cetane number (minimum 45) and higher detergency, is now available to the general public in Scarborough at the Sunoco location on Kennedy Road just south of the 401 near Progress.

This is the first one and they inidcated that a number of locations will be announced as they become available.

This is a step in the right direction.

J.

Jason Crabtree, are you the one who had a TDI engine installed in an A2 Golf? If so, I would think that you are already a TDI owner!
Of course, Sunoco Golf has no meaning for me here in Maryland, but did you also ask them what level of sulphur is in their fuel? 0.05% (500 ppm.) is the most allowed here, about 0.033% (330 ppm.) is about average, or so I read a couple years ago.

I'd like to see that. Although Maryland would seem to be prime territory for Sunoco, there do not seem to be very many around Rockville. Exxon and Mobil rule.

One nearby Sunoco offers diesel for about the most expensive of any station I know of. It's from a grimy, shabby pump off to the side in a dark corner of the lot. A perfect picture of what most people already think of diesel vehicles and stations.

I've been filling up there for more than a month. It has a sticker saying "Low Sulphur" on the side of the pump. It was 70.9 Friday which they say is 1 cent more than normal, let's see how long that stays.

Yes, it does run smoother and quieter and quicker. I emailed those knobs about that list but got no response....

The pamphlet at the station doesn't say anything else, but it's a great colour.

tommy37, you mean the Sunoco next door to the Hooters? I've never stopped in there, because it is so expensive and unlabled. I have been told that Congressional VW uses that very station to fuel up the new TDIs that they sell.
Actually, if you want expen$ive, the Texaco on Shady Grove Road, just east of I-270 is also beaucoup expen$ive, as much as $1.999/gallon during the darkest days of winter, but all the way down now (hold on to your hats) to $1.829/gallon. Given the bad reputation of Texaco on this forum, I have not tried their fuel either.

Related note:

There's a new Shell (not Sunoco) station which has just opened up near my house. I went there to get diesel, and they have TWO CHOICES of diesel fuel - regular diesel for 64.9 cents per litre, and "Shell Ultra" diesel for 67.9 cents.

Naturally I filled up with the Ultra, and a block down the road (after the fuel filter got purged out) I noticed it was quieter and smoother at idle speed.

Guess that's where I'll be filling up from now on!

I've begun to add Premium Diesel stations in Canada to the List. I've added the Scarborough Sunoco and the Brampton Shell stations.

Check up on the list and let me know what I'm missing. Ontario is the only province with entries so far.

Oh, is there a Hooters next to that Sunoco? Funny that I never noticed.

Don't know where Congressional fills its new cars but I am disgusted with both their sales force and their service department.

Texaco is pretty expensive around here, you are right. Their signs alwys say Premium Diesel, but as has been noted in these Forums, That does not always mean what it sounds like. My very first fillup after I bought my TDI was at a Texaco in Virginia and I haven't been back since.

I received this email moments ago.

ATTENTION, WE NOW INTERRUPT THIS PROGRAM FOR THIS FAST-BREAKING NEWS BULLETIN

[email begins here]

Hello everyone. The process is moving ahead slowly but we have added Gold Diesel to another Sunoco retail service station, now with 2 locations offering this premium product.

The first offering was on Kennedy Rd just south of the 401 near Progress in Scarborough. Response has been beyond our expectations with many reports of things like less smoke, quieter running engine, better acceleration, and improved fuel economy.

I am happy to announce that Sunoco Gold Diesel, our premium diesel with higher cetane number (minimum 45) and higher detergency to name but a few additives, is now also available in London at the Sunoco location on Exeter Road where the road ends at Wharncliffe. Exit the 402 at Wonderland Rd (just past the 401/402 junction) and go north to Exeter and turn left, the Sunoco is on the right. This is the 2nd in a number of locations that have Gold Diesel and I will keep you posted as more locations become available.

Please send me a note on how you like the product and location, and include the vehicle and type of driving you do.
Thank you for your continued patience.

Thanks, Jeff Parsons
