Hi, this is my first post here in probably 5 years. I had a 2004 Jetta TDI sedan that died on us 5000 miles out of warranty and due to financial issues, it was easier for us to trade it in rather than fix it...
Just out of sheer dumb luck, the dealer had 2 2010 TDI's that had just rolled onto the lot, one was a sedan, the other was the SportWagen.
They were running an invoice sale and being the VW dealer, our TDI was worth more to them than it would have been to another dealer who doesn't know what a TDI is, they gave us full book on ours (9000$) despite the fact that it needed 3500$ worth of repairs (probably much less if they do it internally). I actually talked the salseman into admitting that they will turn it around for between 12 and 13K with no problem.
So we ended up getting the new SW for right around 21k out the door with our trade.
I really didn't want to get into another payment, ours had been paid off for almost three years, but all in all, it's not that bad.
I'm not a standard fan, but the auto was all they had, no sunroof, but I'm 6'5", so the extra headroom is welcome.
We desperately needed more legroom in back with the kids getting older, so that's a definite plus.
Three months of free Sirius satellite is cool, don't know if we're going to keep it though.
The service is paid for for 3/36 so that's a huge plus and I'm looking into the clean air tax credit as I hear there are only a limited number of those available.
The only option that I purchased was the 5/100K warranty, I talked him down to 1200$ for that (It started at 2900$) and he threw in a year of "free" key coverage. Though that has never been a problem anyway..
The car is black which I love, black leather (not sure if it's real or fake leather) multifunction steering wheel, touchscreen stereo, the bluetooth is awesome, all in all, I really like it. I'll be much happier when break in is done and the stupid transmission finally learns how I like to drive...it's getting better, but it's a slow process. The tranny feels weird, I've never driven one of these new ones before, it will take some getting used to...
I knew that these wagons existed, but had no idea how desirable they are, the dealer acted like I was nuts for not freaking out that one was available, all I knew is that it was just sitting there...
I'm glad to be back in the TDI fold, I was getting scared and we had so many problems with our other one (None TDI related) that I really didn't know if I wanted another VW. We didn't go a single full year without something major going out, but as long as it was covered under warranty, it was their problem, not mine....
Anyway, just wanted to share my story...I'm looking forward to doing some more research on this car and see what's new....
