I have noticed a strange noise coming from my car when I take my foot of the gas. It's a light "growl" and it more evident at lower speeds 20 - 60KM/h and is sometimes acompained with a soft clunk sound. It doesn't seem to get worse when when turing -- so I have my doubts if it's a CV. Any thoughts?

It's manual.

I'm kinda thinking it may be a wheel bearing. It sounds like it's coming from the front right. I'm hearing it at all speeds now, goes away under acceleration or at a complete stop. MPG seems to be a bit low too.

If it's a wheel bearing, it will usualy stop if you turn one side, and be louder if you turn the opposite. I would say it's the CV (inner maybe...)

I'm betting you have a hole in your exhaust. Probably its located right after the catalytic converter. Check the seam where the pipe meets the Catalytic. When mine broke I started hearing this growling sound every time I let off the gas. As for the clunk it could be the catalytic converter is hanging abit and is clunking against the crossmember or the underneath of the car. Hope this helps.

I don't think it's exhaust related -- it's more of a rubbing/grinding sound. The car must rolling to produce the noise. It makes it in gear and out of gear. It doesn't seem get worse when you turn, but I will try Cabok's test. The car is going into the stealer next Friday and they think they can reproduce the noise in the shop.
