Steering wheel swap problems

I have a 2006 BEW and it had a stock steering wheel. I ripped out the steering wheel with cruise control and volume control off of my old BEW and installed it on the 2006. All the connections were the same but the radio does not respond to the volume. Haven't taken it out yet, but I doubt cruise control works as well. Does this mean I need a whole new ECU to recognize the steering wheel? Thanks for your help

There are threads on this (MFSW conversion). The wheels with buttons on them are wired COMPLETELY differently to the wheels without buttons. The wheels with buttons use LIN bus to a double-relay under the dash (451 or 452) to process all button presses, including the horn, and send the signals where they need to go. The wheels without buttons just have the horn wired right to the clockspring. You can swap, but wiring is required, even to just get the horn working.

Thank you very much for this. I will search for the said threads. Appreciate your time
