Going through the process of replacing my steering rack and thought I would clear afew things up. All the write-up's and instructions I could find on the web indicated that the subframe needed to be lowered in order to remove the rack. If you want to leave the inner tie rods attached than this would be required. If you remove the inner tie rods then the rack will slip right out without having to mess around with the subframe bolts. Considering it takes around 5 minutes to remove each inner tie rod and no special tools are required other than an 1 1/2 wrench or the metric equivalent. Just wanted to put that out there for anybody who is on the fence about tackling this job. It can be accomplished with only basic garage knowledge and tools.

On a side note i'm wondering if anybody has bothered to rebuild their steering rack? I bought a used rack assembly to replace mine to keep downtime to a minimum but it would be a shame to scrap mine if the rebuild kits have been used successfully.
