Steel or Aluminum rrims for Autocross?

Would steel or aluminum rims be better for Autocross racing?:confused:

Any info or thoughts?

Alloy might be a little better and might look faster. :)

Steel is usually the most practical choice. but Autocross is not about practical.

The lightest wheels you can find to reduce unsprung weight. It makes a big difference.

Check out Volk Racing, SSR and Gram Light. Centerline has some lightweight wheels as well.

As above, reducing unsprung weight helps a lot... Don't forget about your tires, they weigh a lot too =).

Hi,

You'll gain more from a grippy, quality tire than you'll lose by running on steelies. And the lightest tire isn't always the best. Sure, you might accelerate a touch better in the straights. But you'll suffer in the turns. Once you have the right tires, THEN go for lighter wheels. Here's my choice of tire, Kumho Ecsta V710, along with my Crew Chief:
