I think so. The wheels are fairly subtle when compared to most of the 17-19" choices sought after by today's Joneses. ;) Besides, even with the wheels, it still just looks like an old Jetta with wheels; not an old Jetta with wheels, +50-hp, a handling package, enhanced stereo, GPS tracking, etc. :) Yeah, the antennas can draw attention during the day. But they blend into the night and I remove them when parked long term.

Retook the underpass photo. Then I took the following:

looks awesome, i'm partial to long winding drives through the southeast on one lane highways.

Hello,

I'm heading to TX for a visit soon and will have to get my car inspected. So I FINALLY got rid of an annoying exhaust rattle by having the bottom of my downpipe reformed and the entire system welded vice clamped. I also put a resonator in place to pass a "visual inspection" (sort of LOOKS like a muffler). So far, I like it:

I didn't like PAYING for this. But I AM very happy with the results. ;)

That looks nice.....I hate paying to get a car fixed too,but in long run it usually is cheaper in regards to tools, frustration, and time it would take you to do it compared to a pro....... I love how clean and rust free your Jetta is! Have a fun and safe road trip!

Hello,

Did the aero turbine resonator change the sound of the car at all?
Yes and no. It changed it from the annoying sound of a car with nothing. But it put it BACK to the way it was when I had the stock resonator in place. So it depends on what you're starting with. Stock exhaust? You won't even notice. :)

I've made it back from my trip. Link in my signature. I took LOTS of photos! Here are a few of my favorites of the car:

More photos in my album and the Road Trip thread. Also, I'm glad I had the exhaust work done. The inspector, who's checked my car many times in the past without issue, did actually get on the ground and look for a full exhaust.

nice shot!
No kidding, wow there is so much awesome going on in that one picture, the light and shadow, the wheels, the orange glow from the marker lamps, the curve, the elevation changes, the bus. Amazing.

Scott, without revealing too much, can you tell us if your car was parked or moving in that picture? Either way it looks like the Jetta is eating up the corner, which is a neat trick if it were parked.

Oh, I was definitely moving. There's too much traffic and blind turns to risk stopping. There are about eight professional photographers along the TOTD taking photos all day long. All you have to do is go to Killboy.com about a week after your drive, find your photos (listed under date and time), and order them if you like them. :) There are more photos in my road trip thread (see sig).

Hello,

I've taken some interest in VWVortex's MK3 Picture Game Thread. It got off to a bumpy start and is not quite as popular as the BMW thread referenced in the top post. But it's picking up a little momentum. Here are a few of the shots I've taken for the game:

"Your MK3 with a snake..."

Your MK3 with a piece of military equipment:

Your MK3 with the US Flag:

Your MK3 at the side of the road with a flat tire:

As if I was going to deflate a tire on my Jetta! :p

It's been a hodge-podge of different shops. The short version is the Meineke shop on Airline Blvd in Portsmouth was the last shop to work with it. I was in a jam and couldn't wait for the guy on the Peninsula I like. Meineke did good work. Just don't expect to dazzle anyone with a work of art there. ;) The photos I posted have new welds. I suspect they're rusted by now. And the angle of the photo hides some flaws. Again, good, sturdy work. Just not Whitbread quality. :D

I didn't do a lot while I was there. I was there on business and just slept at the hotel. I chose National Harbor because it's very close to my non-95 escape back to Newport News via 210, 301 and 17. :)

That's awesome! Love the new logo too! ;)

I'm looking to catch you one day, I'm nearly 1/4 of the way there!

Hope you don't forget we have a nice picture game thread here at TDI club forums, perhaps the one you always truly wanted to be in....:p

Hope you'll document some photos of this deserving car over there again one day again soon. :)

Today marks the 15th anniversary of the day I purchased my 1998 Jetta TDI new from Mattie Imports in Fall River, MA in 1998. I drove my first 100,000 miles and passed through 29 states before it was three years old! I drive less now than I did back then. But my MK3 is still my primary car (back up is the wife's 2003 Passat). Had I known I was going to like the car this much and drive it this far, I would have invested in a better camera, taken more photos and drove it to a few other states when I was closer to them.

I created a commemorative video to celebrate the anniversary. There's nine seconds of speeding through "mod shots." After that, it's just a photo journey through time showing many of the places the car has taken me. I tried to share a few of photos from each year and then a bunch from 2011's road trip. You may notice grainy photos from the early days before I had a digital camera.

The music featured suits my journey over the years (not quite as good as "As I Am" by Dream Theater). It's my answer to those who've said, "Why a VW," "Why a diesel," "It's only 90 horsepower," "You need a new car," "You need a bigger car," "You need a truck if you're going to tow," "The wheels are too small," "You should get <fill in the blank>," "Needs more low," "It has so much potential," "Your bicycle is worth more," "What wrong with having a car payment," etc. LOL! The song is an anthem for those who do their own thing while being neither sheep nor instigators. Let's see how long it stays up before being blocked by YouTube. Enough babbling. Here's the 2:08 video:

Thanks! Not sure if I'll be there. It all depends on the weather. Good riding weather will compel me to go on a bike ride rather than spend five hours on I-95/I-64. ;) I'll know more soon.

I really, really like your video, I already watched it several times. The subject is excellent, and that song rocks AND lyically tailored just perfect! I can literally tap into your sense of nostalgia from this vid. So cool, thank you. :) Now off to buy some Superchick for my music collection. ;)
