Starts and shuts off .

Help, 2001 1.9 ,
The car will start but shuts off immiediatly as if it is running out of fuel. This is intermittent and may not occur again for several weeks.

It is pumping fuel, and when it is running I am seeing air bubbles in the fuel line ?

I have read that the imobilzer chip in the key might be going haywire. Do you get the imobilzer light in your dash?

Has your relay 109 been replaced? If not, it might be starting to die.

I was having the same problem with my 01. It would die for no reason then in a few minutes would fire up like normal. The last time I noticed a few of the dash lights did not come on and installed the 109 relay. I broke open the old black 109 relay and it had a burnt smell to it. 10K miles later and no problems.

Now I have a spare in the car!

Also, if you are going to change the relay in the 01 it is very easy. Pull the cover off the fuse panel on the left of the stearing wheel then unbolt the fuse block. You can see and change 109 from this area.

If it does start, and catch, but dies about 1 second later, it will be the immobiliser.
