Just got off the phone with KPIX in San Francisco. They'd like to interview me on camera with the car. They'd like to be there for the buyback on Saturday.

I'll update this as it develops.

Good reasons for this being in San Francisco. Might be a VW setup. They will pull all the stops to make sure this is a perfect experience. Will probably be met by 49er cheerleaders and live music. They might even invite Judge Breyer to show him wonderful things are going.

Does VW bless this? If I were the VW rep, I would not go on camera without their written permission.

If I were the VW rep and dealer, I wouldn't let the news crew on the property without corporate approval.

Forget VW, the dealer can't possibly want the negative attention. We're down at XYZ VW, watching a mass recall happen. Yeah, that's going to help business.

Common mistake.

Niners cheerleaders' territory is Santa Clara / San Jose / south bay. They'll get a Warriors cheerleader to come over from Oakland.

You think the dealer has the authority to make that decision on his own? If he made it, it would be at his peril.

please say, "the only green I care about is what VW is putting in my account." "VW cheating emissions has to be the greatest automotive thing to happen to me." "I made money on my used car." "MY TDI may or may not be deleted anyways, roll coal" lol you get the gist. Just aggravate the tree huggers you know.

Oh never mind, california, you may get death threats.

How did they find you? Was it through VW or a law firm involved in the settlement?...Mark

Don't think a law firm would provide such info. That's why I think VW is behind this in an attempt to put a positive spin on the situation.

I like your suggestion. Television viewers in San Fransicko probably hate VW and VW owners already.

I reached out to them with what I thought might be a newsworthy "consumer interest" story, referring them to this blog and the other on reddit.

That must have peaked their interest because I got an email back asking if they could talk to me. I spoke to the investigative reporter for about a half hour and she was going to contact her camera guy to see if he was available. He was across the bay at the time. I've not heard anything since.

No, I'm not a VW employee. I'm in this just like the rest of you. And no, I'm not a treehugger/greenie. You can check my posts over the past 7 years to find I (was) simply a TDI enthusiast who got taken along for the ride. The journey will end soon.

Yes, cheerleaders would be cool. And this DEFINITELY IS 49ers territory, despite their poor showing this year.

If they ask what kind of car you're going to get next, you should tell them you're planning to get a Dodge Ram 3500 4x4 with a 6.7 liter Cummins turbo diesel engine.

"The EPA says it's okay."

Of course the dealer has the authority to ask someone to leave their property. I realize this is in the Democratic Peoples Republic of California, but property owners can ask unwanted activities to leave their property.

Well, here in SF, real estate is at a premium. Very few dealerships in the city, and not much to speak of for a lot. New cars are usually stored in a parking garage nearby.

You could probably film the entire buyback transaction from the sidewalk. ;)

Maybe they can get Nancy Pelosi and some other politicians own there to be on camera and get some publicity? And maybe some singers and movie stars like Rosie Donnell and Barbara Streisand (Oh, they relocated to Canada, from what I read)?

Funny, I just received a reply from the Portland, Oregon ABC station

Just got done sending a response to the reporter of the consumer advocate team with our local ABC affiliate. I sent my initial email after the first 10 business days deadline had come and gone with no progress made on my claim.

I'm tentatively scheduled for next Wednesday to be interviewed. I stipulated that I wouldn't use my name out of fear of being retaliated against.

I'm going to address the buyback dates not being adhered to, the overall delays in coming to a settlement, discuss how this isn't a windfall for many of us regarding final settlement amounts owed to us (we're only being made whole as of 9/18/15), the lack of preparation in setting up the claims process to get us moved along, claim line wait times.

Anything else I should address?

Not sure if I misread the previous posts, but I can't imagine the dealership or VW Corporate would give their blessing on allowing a camera crew into the dealership filming the whole thing. In Canada we have a few programs on TV where a reporter is a consumer advocate fighting for people's rights whenever they've been ripped off by scams, contractors, various business transactions where they've been taken for a ride. Anyways, almost 99% of the time the person(s) at fault will block the camera with their hand or not allow any camera's near there property. Sometimes they may comment on a live phone call that the reporter will usually air on TV trying to defend themselves . Should be interesting ...
