Tried the search but did not find anything... My (manual) shifter squeaks it feels like there is a very dry rubber part in there. Asked the dealer to fix and they "could not reproduce the problem" - typical.
How does one remove the "sack" around the shifter to get access to the innards? Feels like maybe the frame can be pried out at the console but I don't want to go too far. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,

DG sigma-6 shifter install instructions for my 2010 sedan, pull up and out and the ring around the boot will pop out. If tried it a couple times to see how hard it is, btw i could see some sort of lubricant down in there.

Just for clarification - pull up on the lower square "ring" (chromed) seated in the console and it will pop out?
Yep. You can either move the shifter to the second or fourth gear position (so there is more "slack" in the leather boot) and grab that square "ring" and pull. or you can use some sort of prying tool (use something plastic or wrap tape around a small flat screwdriver - so you don't scratch the ring) from the outside. It takes some force, but it is not difficult.

Have Fun!

if the squeekyness is in the shifting unit under that trim piece, the sigma-6 won't completly take care of it, but it will reduce the amount of movment.

I've had this problem with my MKIV Golf and now it is happening with my MKVI. After a bunch of research I decided to use a Silicone / Teflon lube. It fixed up the squeak on the MKIV, but has not resolved the issue on the MKVI. I will try lubricating it again in a week or so, but I'm still looking for a resolution to this one.

Incidentally, does anyone know what lube is used on the sunroof?
