A spring GTG in Michigan has become a yearly ritual around here for some of the old timers. We have been having the GTG at my place in Hastings MI the last few years. http://pics.tdiclub.com/members/B_Sides1/Maps/Hastings1.jpg

I will have to warn you in advance some of our more creative members
( I will not mention any names ) can get kind of crazy with makes shift propane screaming jet engines that will scare the bejabbers
out of ya at times. But you are for warned.

By a somewhat general consensus the date that seems to work the best for everyone is Sat 5/24 of Memorial Day weekend.

I am posting this as a sign up thread because the GTG got pretty good size the last few years. By putting a post up here you will help so we can kind of keep a handle on how big the GTG is getting. I live out in the country so some camping (campers or tents) or a bonfire is possible. If you want to camp and come in Friday night and stay through Sat night that’s fine. All I ask is please put that in your post so I know what to expect.

Looking for something easy to pull off for everyone, a tailgate style GTG was suggested. So BYO (food, drink, lawn chairs) will be the order of the day. We will have coffee and donuts here in the morning. We will also have a BBQ grill , paper plates, and plastic silverware available here for anyone who wants to use it. We can also take a collection up if someone wants to go after pizza.

If you want to camp and arrive on Friday night that works fine. The GTG will start say 7:30am Sat morning or anything you get here, until whatever time Sat night. If we have a few people around Friday of Sat night we can have a bonfire and a drink a couple beers. Then a proposal was made for a Sunday morning breakfasts meet at a restaurant, which will cap off the weekend.

We may need to take up a small collection to cover some minor (porta potty, paper product, etc) expenses.

If have any suggestion to make this thing better or easier please feel free to make them.

I will try to monitor the thread but I do get busy at times. Ripster has offered to monitor the thread so I am asking him to do so and he can also answer questions in my absence. He can also give me a prod through email if he wants.

I am there. Keeping with Saturday as the main day, and the tailgate theme for food, bring your specialty with plastic utensils and paper to keep the expenses down. Also we will pass the hat on Saturday, so be sure and bring $5 or more for a donation to ensure we keep Hondo expenses down. Lets clear out on Sunday so Hondo can relax a bit also. If you feel like posting what you are bringing feel free. See you there. Anyone not knowing the way, we will leave the Hilton on Saturday morning at 8am for those that want to follow us out to Hondo's.

Wow no Anthony freezing on the lawn.
Peter, how NICE of you to remember...

Let it hereby be known I froze only once. The second HondoFest found me well prepared with proper attire.

I'm still interested in helping with a timing belt. Ill also camp outand could bring whatever is needed. I can bring a vise mount spring compressor if i have a little warning, for front struts. Looking forward to meeting everyone let me know if we can do a timing belt.

Why am I having visions of a two one-inch diameter lines hooked up to some kind of screaming contraption. One line to my 300 gallon farm diesel tank with B20 in it, and the other one hooked up to my 500 gallon home LP heating tank. All I can see is scorched earth and a spot in my yard the size of 2-car garage that never grows anthing again. Pete’s flame throwing service comes to mind.

Heck we could use perfume to put out the blaze, right Pete? It seems to me you have skills with that stuff too

Is some sort of drive scheduled for the GTG? I have an FRS radio, which makes group drives more fun and more organized. It's been a while since I've been on one, so I figured I'd ask

No drive scheduled at this time, if unsure of where Hondo's ranch is, meet at the Hilton (TDIFEST2002) on 28th near the airport by 8am on Saturday. Everyone please remember to bring a tailgate dish of some sort, and your own utensils and paper products--that way all food is a community feed and you supply your own beverage and utensils and paper products. We will be passing a hat for expenses of the on site bathrooms that Hondo has delivered. If you are doing timing belts etc, you need to arrange with other members if you need help. All attendees either need to do it yourself or make arrangements with another member for help doing the project. Tools in most cases will be plentiful, but I can't stress enough, make sure you have a helper before showing up at the GTG. Most just hang around and do minor maintenance. May 24th Saturday is the main day. Sunday we clear out and give Hondo some rest.

E, I think you have the first place so far for the most distance traveled to the GTG award!!
Glad to see you will make it! Since I talked you into it, and you are traveling so far, I'll bring an extra steak along for you for the cookout!
