A month ago the February 2022 WTI crude oil futures contract closed at $83.50/barrel. Today, $66/barrel.
New York Harbor ULSD futures peaked at $2.57 and change per gallon. Today it closed at $2.08/gallon.
I suspect both contracts will rise later this week. But I also predict that prices at the pump should drop at least 20-30 cents a gallon, and for that reason, you should buy as much as you need but maybe not fill up until you can find a cheap station. I was able to fill for $3.199 Tuesday when most stations were still charging $3.49-3.59. I don't expect $3/gallon anytime soon, but it's possible that a few stations might get to $3.09 or so.
