RUG dropped from $3.69 to $3.63 and diesel went from $4.25 to $4.14, at the local Speedway. I guess they haven't heard that the prices were supposed to go up.

Just noticed diesel going for $0.31/L *LESS* than RUG here on Vancouver Island - $1.769 vs $2.079. :D
(For you non-metricists, that's roughly $0.85US per gallon)

Damn, that's almost $8 per US gallon for RUG. Gees! How much of it is taxes?

Most of it is taxes. IIRC, there were comments years back that showed the price of fuels around the world. The price per gallon or liter, depending on your flavor, was fairly consistent. The differences at the pumps is directly related to all the taxes added. Much as the difference from one side of the state line to the other.

I don’t know what everyone’s talking about, here in central Florida RUG hovers around $3.50 and Diesel is around $3.65 💪

Speedy north of Knoxville, Tennessee has Diesel for $3.279 and RUG was $3.039... It really seems Diesel Fuel is not moving up like gasoline!

To be clear, $2.079 * 3.079L/gal = $7.85CAD = $5.75USD/g

Taxes*:
$.1685 carbon tax
$.04/L excise tax
$.15/L provincial tax
5% Fed sales tax (GST)

So, on $2.00/L, that'd work out to $.46/L = ~25% in taxes
Don't think we need to hold a bake sale fundraiser for Suncor or Exxon anytime soon.

Meanwhile, cost of emergency appendectomy and a week in hospital: $0 :D

For the record I believe it is 3.78541L/gal

Yeah, I forgot to do the metric conversion.
That emergency appendectomy and a week in the hospital did cost someone (nothing is free).

I guess what bugs me most about healthcare providers is how they apply their fees. They give insurance conglomerates "group" discounts, but the guy off the street is charged their full price, even if he/she is paying with Cash. Cash has the least amount of accounting. My wife and I have had excellent health insurance for almost 50 years. But, we also set-up a personal bank account years ago for the purpose of paying co-pays and deductibles. We would make deposits in it as we could. When we were young, we hardly ever tapped it. So, the account did grow, however, as we've aged and do need more medical care, the account has begun dropping off. At this point in life, we've quit making deposits in it.

I noticed yesterday that Diesel fuel at two truck stops had dropped a few cents per gallon. Also, I noticed that E85 (Flex-fuel) dropped from $2.85 to $2.67. And, as I posted previously, I saw it in Tennessee at $2.25. I like to use it in my "old" lawn mower which has a brass float needle opposed to the plastic needle with a rubber tip.

Dealing with dollars and cents, so two significant digits will suffice, my friend. ;)
(But yes - I inadvertently added a zero in the middle there; 3.79L/gal is accurate - I appreciate you pointing out the typo.)

Yeah, it cost all the rest of us instead of the person who needed it... both our health systems are flawed.
I know I've paid at least an order of magnitude more in taxes to our health care system than I've "used" - and I'm happy to do that knowing that it allows someone who isn't as fortunate with good health, has a kid with a life-threatening illness, or whatever, be able to deal with the stress of that without the additional stress of "how will I pay for this?".

As to the matter at hand....it's odd how here on the Island, our area has diesel currently $.36/L less than RUG, but go to the next town down the line (70km away) and the difference is closer to only $.10/L less for the big D.

Yeah I know, I'd be fine with it if that's all it was, but you know how many people are abusing the system and wasting your hard earned money?
I take care of my own health, so why should I need to pay for those who neglect or even consciously abuse theirs?
But anyway, this is getting off topic and I shouldn't have mentioned it.
