Sound Off on Current Diesel Price

I was in central Wisconsin today, where diesel was the same or slightly less than regular gasoline at several stations. But at GasBuddy, diesel was $3.30-3.35 at many stations between Black River Falls and Menomonee. http://www.wisconsingasprices.com/index.aspx?fuel=D

$4.35 at that cheap truck stop that my Beetle really likes. So much more power. One side issue that has come up is the fuel gauge is now whacky. Before I started using this diesel, with the ventectomy the needle would not come off F until ~ 125 miles. 3/4 mark was 250 miles, 1/2 mark was 400 miles, and 600 miles at the 1/4 full mark.

Now it doesn't come off F until 250 miles, forget what the 3/4 mark is, but 1/2 is over 500 miles. 1/4 mark is usually 675 and it plummets after that. Here I was thinking I was getting crazy fantastic mileage, and I am getting better MPG with this fuel, but only 48-48.5 mpg vs 46-47mpg.

So this fuel is messing with the gauge but I don't see how. Usually open circuit = empty. How is it making a better connection?

The wiper on the fuel level resistor makes the contact, not the fuel conductivity. I've had too much sulfur (?) in gasoline cause the wipe to not make contact, but that makes the fuel gauge read zero all the time, or have intermittent spots.

Sounds like a problem in the pick up element of the fuel gauge. It might just be a little extra dirt in the fuel.
My dad's F350 used to have a similar problem. About 150 miles on the first half tank and about 25 miles on the second half.

$1.729/L outside of Victoria BC. Went up a bit, was 165.9 back in June, but gas is about 20 cents more, so I'm not complaining.

Diesel went up here and RUG went down a smidge. That cheap truckstop was $4.45, now it's matching Costco at $4.95. RUG is $4.74

Filled up at Costco in Bellingham, WA, a few weeks back - $4.39/g for diesel, while RUG was $4.79/g.

Doesn't match the $.21/L discount of diesel vs. RUG here on Vancouver Island where I live, but at least moving in the right direction for our trip to SoCal next month.

Today I saw a station with $3.49 a gallon for both diesel and gasoline. Some stations gasoline is just a bit more expensive.
Makes it not as cost effective to drive my 1.8t passat, especially since it takes the 91 octane which is $4.39...
