What is upside? Pardon the ignorant question.
Upside is an app that gives you cash back on different fuel, grocery or restaurant purchases. I use it as well and so far in the one year I've had it I've gotten $82 back! https://www.upside.com/

Non ethanol 87 octane gasoline is $4.09 in Elkton, VA. On road diesel fuel is $ 4.09 in Dyke,VA. So we're basically even on gas versus diesel fuel.

I just fueled up with 93 octane for $4.09 a gallon... unleaded 87 octane is $3.39 and diesel is $3.59
Figuring the prices vs fuel economy, a tdi still is worth driving.

If your other vehicles get 26,15 and 12mpg a tdi saves a ton of money.... why I got one. Fill up once a month for $56.00 vs every other week for the same or more money. I'm way ahead right now.

Yeah, my other vehicles are a Ford Expedition which gets 10-15 mpg and a W8 passat that gets 15-20

I always use the rule of thumb that if the fuel prices are within 30% of each other, I'm saving money to drive the diesel. Of course, the other side of that argument is that I have nothing else to drive. So I'm saving money by not having a car payment and insurance on a third vehicle.

Thats what I thought too... then I tried it.
GetUpside/Upside

Have used it for a couple of years. More Tham $300 back so far. Check reddit every couple of months for new coupon codes.

When it first came to my area there were large introductory grocery and restaurant discounts. Those are pretty much gone now.

After a quick run to western NC yesterday, I decided I should top off the truck for our weekend adventures. Diesel was down to $3.31 and rug was up to $3.39! Finally a step in the right direction. Now if we could just change that first 3 to a 1.

Just got RUG this morning @$3.43/g and D2 was selling at $3.71/g in PSL Florida. BTW premium was selling at $3.83/g. This is at Sam's Club. Local stations around it are selling RUG @$3.55 to 3.65 and D2 about $4

For some reason a couple of of Holiday stations in the twin cities s/w suburbs are 80 cents under most in this area at $3.59. Not sure if they got a load of summer diesel before anyone else or what.

That price put them at/near rug in the area. Combined with the $1.10 c/b I had with GetUpside (Upside) bonus codes payed a net $2.49. The Upside c/b has already been redeemed via PayPal.

Cheapest diesel fill I've had in a good long time.

Read their privacy policy; you're basically providing market research and data for them. Everything from credit card info and usage to location tracking, receipts, phone numbers, email addresses, the contacts in your phone, etc.
Remember the old adage: If you're using a product and not paying for it, YOU are the product.

Of course, everyone can make their own decisions, but it's good to know and be aware of exactly what you're providing and giving up in exchange for that "upside".

As for the price of diesel here in BC: Most commonly it's within $.01/L of RUG and most stations. $165.9/L seems to be the most common price on signs.
