Diesel is around $2.70 here while gas is 2.73 and higher. According to my fuelly history, the current summer diesel price is the lowest I've paid since I bought my current car in August 2012. Hopefully the fall/winter prices stay low as well.

There's an article on the Wall Street Journal today "Diesel prices tank amid global glut:

http://www.wsj.com/articles/diesel-prices-tank-amid-global-glut-1437606254

"Diesel fuel typically costs more than gasoline because U.S. refineries export much of their diesel output, leaving less available for the domestic market, and federal taxes are higher for diesel than for gasoline.

As gasoline demand has risen around the world, refineries are running at high rates to produce as much of it as possible. Facilities from Russia to China to the U.S. make diesel alongside gasoline, so in their rush to produce gasoline they are churning out diesel faster than the world wants to consume it.

Falling diesel prices suggest that the world’s crude-oil glut is now becoming a glut of refined products. Analysts and investors say increasing petroleum-product inventories could keep oil and fuel prices subdued into 2016."

Around here, diesel has gone down from $2.79 to $2.69 in most places.

The always outrageously expensive diesel , that only went under $3.00 after everybody else was at $2.50, has gone from $2.99 to $2.89!

Cheapest diesel here is $2.55 at BP

Looking even better for the near term with Iran's oil coming in to the market.http://www.cnbc.com/2015/07/21/that-oil-glut-is-turning-into-a-glut-at-the-pump.html
Not really as Iranian oil will still be banned in these United States fortunately. Even more, that is bad news as the terrorist state will use the income from oil sales to increase funding to terrorist groups for attacks on Western countries, Israel, and Sunni Moslem states like Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Oil companies that buy from Iran are what Lenin called "useful idiots".

Millions of barrels of their oil cannot go into the market without affecting the world wide price overall.
And yes it may give them more money to to good or bad things, but it seems to me the Saudis should be the ones bearing the brunt of trying to keep order in the hell hole that is the middle East.
That said there is still an over supply of diesel for the foreseeable future because it it is a byproduct of the increased gasoline use of China and other expanding markets without a corresponding increase in diesel usage.
Since a good bit of diesel is exported from the US to Europe and Asia the emerging backup of diesel over there will soften the amount sent from over here.

True. Now we in these United States need to finish the Keystone XL from Canada, plus there is a drastic need to 1.) build more lateral pipelines into California, 2.) build more refineries (especially out here in the West) that can make CARB RFG & CARB Diesel since the US has adopted CARB standards as the new national standards effective 2016. Without that capacity there will soon be a shortage of both gas AND diesel coming nationwide.

1.09 per litre here vs 1.24 per litre for regular grade gasoline.
Was paying 1.32 per liter during most of the winter with gas at 1.29

So Cal Chevron....

I live in the Los Angeles area and the price spread is dramatic:

RUG - $3.99
Plus - $4.09
Super - $4.19
D2 - $2.79

At these prices driving a TDI definitely helps ease my pain at the pump.

TDI sold, Mazda 3 purchased
RUG $2.23
Diesel $2.21
Today at Murphy's Express in Gautier MS. Just think what it would cost without the extra tax charged on diesel.

The Sam's near my house selling for $2.28/gal just bumped up to match local stations, so now its at $2.52/gal. RUG is between $2.23 and $2.33 with a few hold outs at $2.59.

I have read gas may not come back down like is expected due to permanent changes to lower sulfur content that is coming in gasoline sooooon....
I read that too a while back. The exact amount of a permanent price increase is not known yet but I'm estimating the hit could be as much as $0.30 to $0.50 per gallon, similar to what happened to D2 when ULSD arrived in the USA.

In southern NH lately, ULSD has been priced well below PUG and in between RUG and MUG prices.

regular- $2.69
mid- $2.95
premium- $3.09
Diesel- $2.49

My cars only use Premium or Diesel so I never pay attention to the mid or RUG. $0.60/gallon difference between filling my Golf and my wife's 545i.....the worst part is her BMW gets 11-14MPG in town lol

Chevron, Victorville CA: regular unleaded gasoline $3.99, diesel $2.75
Wow the gap between diesel and unleaded is absurd. I've heard Las Vegas gets most of its fuel via pipelines from SoCal. Unleaded here is around $3.00, while diesel is around $2.70. Those prices include pumping the fuel 200 miles away and 2000 feet higher in elevation....Talk about price gouging.

Turns out that one of the main reasons for the high price of gasoline here in the CPR is that hundreds of thousands if not millions of gallons are being exported from California while the oil companies are saying there is a "shortage". Turns out the companies are making a profit of almost $1.50 per gallon of gasoline sold here.

I've heard even with the lower gas, and diesel fuel prices the petroleum companies are making more profit now than they ever have.

up for a history lesson anyone?

lets go back to 15 years a go.. price per barrel of crude was about $70 gas was 1.60/gal (I wasn't tacking diesel).

Let's go back 9 years ago price was up I remember filling up my bike for about $16 (4.6 gal tank). Barrel of crude was close to $100

3 years ago (was it 4 by now?) crude was $150 per barrel, gas was 3.90 and in some stations as much as 4.80 for RUG.

Last year crude was at $70, RUG was 3.60, to 3.80 in the area (I had my car by then) and Diesel was 3.30 to 3.60 about on par with RUG...

Today 3.19 Diesel
Today 3.27 RUG

At one of the cheapest stations around here.

Can someone explain why the raw resource has dropped by 50% but the refined products only dropped 60 to 70 cents around 20%? How much maintenance was needed in all these refineries to take them more than 3 years to do?

I remember last winter how Diesel was more expensive than RUG. Now the plan is to have refineries down at the beginning of winter to prepare for new CARB fuels creating a shortage of refined materials from the beginning of the winter season... I feel sorry for the people in colder climates...

This winter I might park my diesel and ride my motorcycle... Because I can already see it coming...

Don't forget that the oil companies are creating an artificial shortage here in California by exporting hundreds of thousands to millions of gallons of gasoline. They are making about $1.50 of pure profit/gallon on gasoline they allow to be sold here in California.
