Wow.... Read through all this and no one here understands or appreciates this. I'm pretty sure most people on the forum here would love to buy this car stock for $12g then do everything the OP did so...... Why bash him for it?

Damn just say nice car op.

On a serious note, I sent you a PM about a deal or working something out, I'm I the market for an upgrade and I'm between this car and a 2014/13. Only thing holding me back from this car is I hate this generation body style.

Oh also can you update with current mileage/mods or wheels on or with it?

I offered him 20k and he turned me down the first time, I got my Cup for 17k with 30,000 miles, 6 speed and modded it myself, everything happens for a reason, I love my CUP...

I would have bought it too, it looks so seriously awesome, but I got a minty 02 ALH that showed up 8 miles from me for $6800. One old lady owner and it was too good to pass up.

Thanks to Steven, and good luck with her! Great transaction. I think the car found a great home.

And thanks TDI club for helping her sell.

Just an update here. Buyer beware. I will be the first to admit my mistake. As nice as people are here don't take a sellers word. I know not to do that, but I did it anyway and I paid for it.

I purchased this Jetta from Pat, and the same day on my drive home I noticed that the AC was not working properly. I let Pat know, and was going to have it checked out after I got home. I have since had it checked out and the compressor is bad. His response was less than helpful.

"I just don't have the money sitting around for anything like that. Beyond that, it was a used car that was sold as is. I'm not trying to be unruly, it just is what it is" (Pat).

Needless to say that was not advertised here, and it is going to cost me quite a bit for my mistake. Take that for what you will, and be sure to have a sight unseen car fully looked at by a trusted local mechanic before you buy it.

so you're just now realizing this over 2 months later and bringing it up for no reason?

No I am not just realizing this. I knew there was an issue the same day I bought the car, but did not have time to get it checked right away. I have been busy working, and closing on a house; however for those reasons yes it took me a month and a half before I had the time available to spare for the car to be in the shop. It took another two weeks trading emails before the seller gave me a definitive response to my question.

As to your opinion no as I stated already there is a reason. I'm bringing it up to give people the opportunity to learn from my mistake after the seller chose to take the moral low road in my opinion. It is a shame but that seems to be the new normal these days.

it's in no way the sellers problem or right for you to start trying to publicly trash him for what reason, something broke on the car? it's an AC pump, wow what a big deal, not like he lied and said the timing belt was done at 100k then you blow the entire motor up at 110k.

also i know know the sell or the buyer and have nothing in this at all other than just getting aggravated when buyers try to do this crap. you didn't make a mistake by buying the car and he didn't mess up by selling it to you. hell i would have loved to have bought this myself if it wasn't already sold to you. then when the AC pump when i'd go buy a new one and put it on. not sure what the big deal is here.

The seller should of said something about the A/C unit. If he didn't know about it,then he should offer something for the repair. That's the right thing to do.I would expected some integrity in dealing with people on this site. This is one of the things make the site so great.

well if you guys want the seller to pay to replace things on the car that you now own you may want to buy a new one. they have a warranty thingy so they will pay to fix your car.

if the seller did anything other than laugh at you for asking to pay for the AC pump he did too much.

It is a big deal to me when I lose out on $1,600+, and a mistake as well. Money is money, and this is not free to fix. I could buy a lot of diesel with that much cash. I also don't care to be lectured by someone about the right thing to do who in their very next statement says the below in response to being asked about integrity. Obviously you are devoid of it.

This site is not VW vortex after all... I don't have the time, but if I did have the time to spend, and it was worth it then I might look into seeing if this could constitute a legal matter (high enough to be a felony fraud amount).

Clearly we are not going to agree. So let us agree to disagree.

I don't have a horse in this race but if someone buys a used car without a warranty, whether its from a dealer or a private party, its buyer beware. I've had similar experiences as yours and my lawyer, whom I keep on retainer, advised me I'm SOL. The seller has no legal obligation to inform perspective buyers of any possible issues, if they do inform you of said issues, be thankful. IMO if an AC compressor is all that took a crap, consider yourself lucky and motor on. Whenever I sell a vehicle, whatever I know is wrong I inform the prospective buyer of and let them make their own decisions. Also, as far as I know, an AC compressor doesn't give much warning of breaking, it just goes...

I agree, and I understand I am likely SOL at this point from a legal view. It is not worth going after legally. I was hoping for some moral reciprocity, but no such luck. I do recognize that I made the mistake of not doing proper due diligence on the car. If I had spent a couple hundred dollars to have a trusted mechanic go over it and do an inspection that should have caught the issue, rather than me finding it out right after handing over a check and driving away. That is what I wanted to communicate to folks buying used cars no matter the source or web site etc. Lesson learned, moving on now thanks all...

turns out the car i bought from a forum member here was missing one of the large rad fans and had the pug for the AC pump straight cut off of it so mine never worked in the year i owned it. also the aftermarket motor mounts he installed were all shot 3 months later resulting in horrible vibrations and cabin noise along with other problems on the car. should i bump that old thread and cry about it asking he pay to fix it or the other things? he never mentioned any of these things or that the AC line was cut.
