An acquaintance has a 2005 TDI Golf manual with about 50k miles. They drive it once a month.

Assuming average condition, what's a good range of value for it? They just want it gone, were asking about places to donate it.

I'm asking for photos and condition, I'll
post updates when I get some. Thanks!

Update: location is Baltimore.

There are just too many to list....
Donate it right here.

Some pics might help.... as would a 3rd pedal.

I have a 210k mile 2005 Golf.... GLS w/ everything, automatic, great shape, and it would take at least $4k to pry it away from me. If it were a manual, it would take more.

Rust free?
Don't know yet. I'm just trying to help him not get ripped off, and at the same time get his car into the hands of some one who can appreciate it. Some parts of the story are a bit interesting, like he just put an new transmission in it this year, which is odd at only 50k miles. But at that age, I guess if it had the original oil, it could have failed early.

Driver door does not respond to the remote, but works with the key. Mechanic said rats chewed the "ASM" and it's $350 to replace. I have my doubts about this mechanic.

Stand by for more information in the next few days. I've encouraged him to sign up here and create his own post, so that may happen too.

Thanks again!

It might be waste of time on BAT. Look at history sold, there was a Golf or a Jetta with lower mileage then this that didn't sell for an astronomical amount a couple of months or weeks ago. You will probably find the right buyer on TDIClub. Don't forget about fees and other charges on BAT.

I know there are people more insane than I. I am absolutely sure of it. IMO, there is an upper limit to how much a 'to be used' fringe element car that old is going to be worth. The value on these puppers is primarily centered on their use. and $14,000 will buy me a whole lot of fuel.

Just thinking out loud. I've seen a range on BaT for low mile TDIs, from about 8k to 18k over the last year or so.

Hoping to get more interior pics soon, then [edit]: --we'll come up with a reasonable asking price--. Thanks!

Looks like no rust. 53k miles.

I'm going to suggest he lists it on Bring a Trailer, honestly. He might get between 10-20k for this, in my opinion.

Still waiting on interior shots.

Stand by.

This isn't BaT. Per forum rules, please post a price.

The word "rats" was mentioned... that alone would likely lower the value some.

While many of us really like these cars, myself at the top of that list, we really should be realistic. They are not some limited run classic. The 4th generation Golf throughout its run enjoyed the position of being one of the best selling single models on the entire planet. They built a LOT of them. Many famous people owned them (Kate Middleton, Pope Benedict XVI... when he was still Joseph Ratzinger... ). They're not something that would or should command some ridiculous prices in the used car market. Sure, there are less and less on the road every day. And no, you cannot replace them with anything... and now you cannot replace them with anything even LIKE them... the last diesel Golf was sold here in 2015, and now the only Golf we can buy is the GTI or the R, we cannot even buy a "regular" Golf here anymore. So a nice, well preserved, lower mileage unit will certainly command a higher price to the right buyer, but don't expect a miracle. But then again, Powerstroke equipped OBS Fords, especially ones with all three pedals, are selling for near their new MSRP if they are in exceptional condition with under 100k miles... so...

Agree! We are coming up with a reasonable asking price, and interior pictures. Won't be crazy. Just need to wait for the sun to come up for pics.

I will probably make a new proper FS post, start fresh. I will link it here.

Thanks for all the advice everyone, this discussion has been super helpful.
