(SOLD!) 1998 GLS 1.9L TDI Diesel with Power Windows. Only 109,380 Original Miles.

I bought this Jetta from a dealership way back in 2003 20 years ago, it's been in Mild East San Diego County Climate for the past 20 years, absolutely no body rust at all. It was even garaged 70% of the time, I've owned it all this time, it's served me well over the past 20 years and as you can see I've kept it in top condition.

From 2014 to 2023, it has been and still is registered in California as NON-OP status since 2014 for no other reason, I didn't want to pay registration because at that point 2012 I purchased a brand new 2012 GOLF TDI new from VW for $27,500, so this Jetta was parked in 2014, registration came up, I paid it for that year but never actually drove the car anymore so I filed PNO from that point onward until today. Last week I pulled it out, uncovered it, washed it off, changed the oil and filter, put a new Battery in it, and got it going again.

Runs Perfectly, not a single leak of any kind, no oil leaks, no fuel leaks, no leaks of any kind you could park it on the kitchen floor.

I've run B-100 Biodiesel in it since 2006.

The passenger side Power Window Regulator broke when I rolled down the window, so it needs a new Passenger side Power Window Regulator now.

Other misc. things that have come up new since it was parked, It now has an intermittent EGR Fault code, not sure if it's the EGR or the Vacuum Pump, since it sat for nearly 10 years. Does not bother me though, it runs perfectly anyway. I clear the fault code with VCDS, and it stays off for awhile, but eventually comes back again.

No longer need this car, I sold my GOLF TDI back to VW in 2017 5 years after I bought it for $27,500 and VW paid me almost $25,000 for Dieselgate! Best thing that ever happened!

This is probably the nicest condition MK3 TDI Jetta in North America for whatever that's worth!

Will post pictures soon, I need to upload them first.

Oh my! What a deal, I would be on it in a flash if it weren't 1200 miles away.

That's a whole lot of eye candy. Great color and probably never find one this clean again. GLWS!

I'd be booking a flight ✈ if I was still rowing my own (although I did last spring in Brazil) . This would be much better than the VW Gol that we had there.

Wow. Neat car. We had several MK3 TDIs. Great cars but had a serious propensity to rust. It's nice to see such a clean example.

Too many.
WOW! you should put that on BAT. I bet you would get double.

I haven't seen a MK3 TDI that clean since about 2000 around here!!

Except if it went to BAT, it wouldn't be loved, it would be dusted... I'm glad the OP has chosen to list it here for real enthusiasts to carry the torch.

After sitting in storage for 10 years the oil pan gasket was leaking slightly so I cleaned it up and installed a new Oil Pan Gasket to spec, using the proper torque wrench.

Absolutely NO leaks now.

In 2010 it failed smog check due to Restricted fuel flow code. I know what caused it, I started running B-100 in this car 2006, the Biodiesel cleans everything including all the gunk built up on the insides of the fuel tank from Diesel fuel. All this came loose and kept clogging up the Pickup/Sending Unit in the fuel tank. I had to clean it out 2 or 3 times, it would last for 6 months then clog up again causing low fuel flow code (or Restricted Fuel flow) I finally fixed it by replacing the Pickup/Sending unit inside the tank with a brand new one.

I'll include pictures of the work here:

The price is lower because it has issues, the EGR problem, the Passenger Side Power Window Regulator is BROKE, needs to be replaced, the Key Remotes are not Programing. I've done it properly, and when I push the button on the remote, it beeps like it's suppose to, but then Nothing. I have not been able to program the Remotes, have to manually use the key to unlock the doors.

Although the timing belt looks just fine, it's been sitting for 10 years and I have never replaced it, I bought the car in 2003 with no knowledge what so ever if the timing belt it original or has ever been changed.

Also the last 3 times I cleared all the codes the check engine light would come back with an intermittent EGR Fault code, I would clear it, drive around about 10 miles, then the check engine light comes back on with the same code.

That was last week, but now I'm seeing 2 or 3 more fault codes besides the EGR 00560 code, one was something to do with Glow plugs, which is not coming up now, the others are 00575 Intake Manifold Pressure, and 00519 Intake Manifold Pressure Sensor AS SHOWN HERE BELOW, I just shot these pictures 10 minutes ago. The car will go into limp mode, but still has enough power to drive anywhere just fine, just not accelerate like it does without Limp mode.

Also, without clearing the codes, if I stop and turn of the engine, then start it and take off again the car hauls ASS Like crazy for a while, then eventually goes back into Limp mode.

Not looking to high-jack you thread. However, maybe you should look at posting it on BAT. It depends if you're looking for the greatest ROI or sending it off to an enthusiast on TDiClub. GLWS.

Check out what this extra clean 99.5 is selling for with 5 days left: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1999-volkswagen-jetta-2/
Thanks for that. That Jetta only has 51,000 miles on it, that is probably why the price is so high.

I thought the Mk3 dark green was "blacker" than the Mk4 dark green - Mk3 was richer / deeper (if that can be a thing in colors); your photos seems to confirm that (I know lighting / camera, etc., but still...).

And yes - stellar car! We almost owned a Mk3 Golf in that color - drive three hours to pick it up only to find out that (despite confirming over the phone three times that we only wanted a 4dr, it turned out to be a 2dr. )
