6/2 Update now lists scheduled run times.

It has been several years since our last SoCal GTG and Dyno Day.
So I am asking who would/could be interested in participating.

Don't know what it is? Here are links to each of the last 3 SoCal Dyno Days:

http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=367506

http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=332746&highlight=soCal

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6K0TphBRcE new addition

Remember, this is also a GTG/Show and Shine. More than just a Dyno Run. Great chance to meet other SoCal TDI members and to see many different TDI Cars! Share information, learn from other TDIClub members. Got some parts to sell? Looking for some parts to buy? Find out who might have what you want. So - Come One - Come All.

Want to get your TDI Tuned? vwmikel of TDTuning is willing to make the trip to this GTG -- IF there is enough interest. Contact vwmikel directly via private message for more information.
It would not hurt to post your interest in this thread, just to keep everyone updated.

Anyone that is interested in a dyno must abide by some rules.
  1. We will abide by the rules the dynoshop gives us, it's their business :)
  2. No fluid leaks, we aren't looking to make a mess at someone's shop. A baby drip shouldn't be a problem.
  3. Car doesn't have running issues. Be considerate of other members, by not holding up the dyno day as we figure out why you have a strange thump, or your timing belt just fell off.
  4. Before your run, it is expected that the vehicle is warmed up and ready to go on the dyno.
  5. I'm setting the lineup to be a minimum of 9 cars. We will adjust the amount of time for each car if allowable or at the discretion of the members. Just looking to be fair.
  6. Can also take a slot if you want to take logs for your tuner versus driving at illegal speeds on the freeway.
  7. Make sure your skid plate is removed prior to your dyno time. If you need assistance let me know. Makes it easier to hook up the optical pickup.
Dyno runs will start at 9:00am and end at 5:00pm (with a lunch break) and we will try to put as many cars down as we can. We will allot for about 45 minutes per car. Get there 30 min before your time slot at least.

Dyno price is $85 for 3 runs per person.
We will be paying for the full day! So we may have some time at the end of the day for a recheck or two.

To Confirm your Dyno spot Sent $85 for the full amount to my PayPal account. johnj92131@yahoo.com send the money as a gift to avoid PayPal fees. REMEMBER, we need 9 advance paid to make this happen by June 3, 2015.

YES, non TDI cars can participate! Ryan, bring that RAM Eco-Diesel! May even have a couple of BMW diesels. BUT, we will/may need to bunch all the RWD cars to save changing dyno set ups. So be aware.

FOOD! Change of Plans: Kooyajerms is OUT as the cook for the VERY BEST of reasons. His wife is due to give birth to their first child June 22. Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs.

So it is Bring your own cooler, food and beverages, share if you like. I will bring paper plates, plastic forks, knives and napkins/paper towels. Also a plastic table for anything to share. If anyone wants to bring Pot Luck, post it in
the thread. I will post a summary here

Any profits will be contributed to TDIClub and be disclosed. Just like last time.

Below is the scheduled/planed time for the dyno slots. Please be ready 15 to 20 minutes in advance so we can move right along.

Note that we still have 2 open slots left.

Hmm, might consider a trip down, especially if TD Tuning Mike is there. Then he could dial in my tune. Would be interesting to see what numbers my car puts down on a dyno as well.

Maybe. I'm not that into dynos, but could be open to hanging out and meeting folks since I always miss gtgs. If dyno price is reasonable I might see how my new tune performs.

I'd be interested in something like this, as well as a dyno run :)

In for the dyno, and some good eats by Jeremy. I wouldn't mind seeing how everything has worked out on the car before I start tweaking things, which I tend to always get into...

I dyno'd mine in order to see where it was in it's "stock" state. Since DynoJets tend to be a bit high, my results of 86 whp, 155 trq were viewed as a scalar/optimistic result. However, given what I later measured for the turbo's crack pressure and how the IQ was adjusted, it seems that the car was tweaked mechanically to produce a bit more. Either way, it was nice to see a benchmark to compare stock to my resulting mods if/when I got to them.

Count me in. No need for a dyno, my car has no mods.
Always good to have a base line starting point dyno test! Then, when the modification bug hits, you actually know how much of an improvement you really made.
At a previous Dyno Day, I was able to quickly switch from my modified tune back to stock tune just by swapping the ecu with the car still parked on the dyno. 50% more low end torque with the tuned ecm. Rather amazing.

Too bad I'll be out of town on that date!
It was always great to see familiar faces and meet new folks and their TDI's.
Oh well...

Why don't we all just have dinner sometime? Meet at temporaptors. Same people as usual it seems. Southern California TDI'ers always knows how to ignore a good event =p

Wow. Great news. Too bad I'm out here on the east coast. I may use this as an excuse to drive back west for a visit. I would like to see you folks again.

I'm in the same boat as bobt2383. I'm on the east coast for a three year tour and my TDI is another persons hands. I would to dyno my EcoDiesel RAM 1500, but I'm not going to drive it out there. I wish I could be there, so in tribute to the good times I've had with this group, I will pay for a dyno slot for one TDIer who wants to go but doesn't have the funds for a dyno run. Jeremy or Temporaptor, let me know where to send you the money. I miss you guys and I hope to be back in 2 years.

Not even in California anymore and Ryan with the donated spot again. Cheers bud.

Send out a contact next time you're in town. I'll let you spend 5 grueling hours on some grimy injectors anytime!

John Jackson will begging collecting dyno money if we can get some more interest. We've never been picky about the cars, so even if you don't have a TDI, bring it on down.

Great to hear from you again. I just may be testing a new turbo upgrade - the shop is actually making progress! Got a picture last week!! Want to see it??

I know but I want to see the cts-v!

I already have plans that day but in the afternoon. As the day gets closer, I'll see what my availability looks like. Shoot me another PM about a week out.

Oh, I don't need to dyno the V. Already done it. ;)

And here you go! :) :p

Food for the GTG, June 20, 2015

Had to change the FOOD PLANS for the GTG.

Kooyajerms is going to be VERY BUSY sometime around June 22, 2015.

His wife is due with their FIRST child, June 22 or there abouts. CONGRATULATIONS!!

So the food plan is now very open. Any volunteers??

So far we have 5 TDIs for the Dyno Run. We need at least 9 cars to cover the cost of the full day rental.
Should be able to handle up to 12 cars. If you want to dyno your car, Post Up ASAP and make your payment by June 3. See first post for details.

I plan on using the dyno for some data collection regarding camshafts. I'll need the time for 8-12 pulls, cool down time, quick wrenching while strapped down. If necessary, which I don't mind, I'll buy another dyno slot for this work. Since all of my other data in on that dyno machine, it'll help yield consistent results.

Have not been to a dyno day since DLai organized one here in the Bay Area in 2005! I wonder if we should caravan down with maxrpm, ToTheMax and some other members ...

Andrew, would be glad to have you and some of the NorCal group. It is a 7 hour drive from San Pablo. Let us know and we will save some afternoon spots! Dlai is having some problems getting time off - his boss just doesn't understand!!

Due to my own needs, I'll have timing belt tools for ALH/AHU/1Z engines at the meet in case anyone wants to check anything and FSR doesn't mind light wrenching.
