Rotary, why do you think that the DSG is performing the actual syncro mesh portion of a shift quickly enough to produce problems? It has (relatively) all the time in the world to mesh them on clutch A while the engine is powering clutch B. Given the feedback control between the engine and transmission to kill power and RPM match on the engine side to the transmission side (particularly with the temperature controlled DSG fluid on the clutches) it seems like it could handle the swap between clutch A and clutch B without issues as well.
Never did I say it can't do what it's designed to do . But I have said is that it's use with a diesel pushes it's ability to function under all conditions smoothly without problems , anyone want to question that one with the current slamming issue ....... Also it's fairly simple that the more shifts you have the more wear there is internally . And that fast shifts without time for shafts to sync up and to diminish momentum differences has a price .

The wet duel clutch pack system helps reduce the impact of quick shift but doesn't 100 % mitigate the costs of quick shifts . The 40k oil change interval is really short and screams extra wear that fills the fluid with clogging up particles .

I'm not saying the DSGs will make 100k+ miles , I'm sure that they can & will if cared for properly . But no one should expect anything close to multiple 100ks on the clock without a rebuild at least .

OK, I'll question that. I don't have a slamming issue, nor do the vast majority (I'm guessing) of owners.

I question your assumption that more shifts you have under a closely controlled system will have more wear than fewer shifts under a human controlled system with far more opportunity for error. Also, as mentioned earlier, the DSG fluid has to act as a working fluid in a valve assembly, and the 40k mile change interval could well be reflective of a more stringent valve contamination requirement rather than concern from problems due to the wear on components themselves. Until a VW engineer can chime in with some more information or someone wants to really do a study of the fluids there isn't enough information to draw conclusions.

I have a DSG, the wider 17" wheels, ~6,000 miles, and I typically get 32 MPG on every tank, 50/50 mixed driving. 35-36 MPG is all this car is good for on highway trips @ 70-75 MPH.

Very, very disappointing.

I passed 10,000 miles last week. No difference in MPG, average 38.3 overall, on my normal driving route. Haven't gone on a road trip to find out if there is any highway MPG gain.

My guess is that you are doing something wrong.

DSG here, 5,000 miles, 34-35 city, 45ish highway (best = 46.7 over 500 miles). 16" stock wheels is the only difference. Driving about 65-70mph

i would have your rear brakes checked to see if they are rubbing or something. do you have a short commute? i drive around 50/50 hwy/city and can not imagine 32! something is wrong.
edit :35 36 hwy? must be all up hill or something is not right. easy to get 42 at 70 to 75mph

Just hit 10K on my new DSG.

I hit 10K Sunday morning. Current MPG overall is 37-38. However, today on my way home (sunny, 81 deg) I saw the MFD show 51 MPG. My best ever with this car was only 42 on a very long trip. Today's drive was just 25 miles. MFD showed 48, 49, 50, 51, 49, 47 all the way home. What could have caused such a huge increase basically overnight? The same drive this morning (raining and cooler) was about 38 MPG. My MFD will consistently show 38-40 MPG on similar trips. Was 51 MPG a fluke? Was it breaking thru the 10K magic wall that gave me the boost in MPG? I would be estatic if I can get that kind of MPG from here on. Otherwise, car runs great. No problems at all. I changed the oil @5,500 with Castrol LL03 507. Going to the dealer for the 10k service later this week. (God, please bless the mechanic with intelligence, common sense, and all the wisdom a good VW mechanic should have.) :)

My tdi with dsg is working fine and I am averaging between 35 and 40 mpg. If I compare it with my 02 New Beetle tdi and 05 Passat tdi it would be the seat confort. 02 would rate first, 05 second and 09 last. I'm only talking about seat confort.
