Thought this an appropriate enough place to post this...

Just wanted to convey many thanks to Fred and all the folks on the board for being THE source for TDI news, advice and information. Owning one has been an experience alright, all the help and information has been invaluable. I think the only thing I'm going to miss is the fuel economy however. Anyway, thanks again to all and the best going forward.

Just traded my 05 TDI J-wagon in on my 2010 Impreza 5-door Limited Package and despite the fact I got a really generous trade they are worth virtually nothing on the local wholesale market:

Cheers!

I love the Impreza-WRX. I always thought the all-wheel drive system and the pancake motors were great sounding as they roared away...

Good luck with your choice. I hear the cams need replacing...

.
oh... my bad, that's another vehicle... LOL

I love the Samuel Adams quote. John Quincy Adams? Er, wait, that's Douglas Adams. :D

Good luck with the new car. While it is bound to cost more in fuel, it is also bound to be much more reliable than our TDIs! I'm mulling over the traitor thing myself....

G'luck with the new impreza.

Having gone through a legacy wagon, and reading nasioc on a regular basis, I can say your fuel consumption is likely going to double.

Although the misfiring-harley exhaust note on the boxer makes it worth it.:D

Good luck sir. If I was jumping ship, the Imprenza would be on the short list. In agreement with others, they have a sweet exaust note.

Yeah... I ditched my TDI for a Scion xD... but I still hang out here because the conversations are much more interesting than those going on in Scion land. They argue over "wheel gap" like TDI people argue about motor oil!

Just thought you guys might find this "entertaining"...

The day after I drove off the lot the Subaru started making weird drivetrain noises during deceleration/engine breaking, anything from a brief buzz type of yaang yaaang sound to a loud, whining, grinding, resonating vibration noise in second gear from 3700 rpms (break-in dictates nothing over 4Krpms) all the way down to a stop. It has been in the shop a couple of times and they've had it for days and all the techs are stumped, they've been calling all over North America to try and find-out what it is. Many calls to the dealership, talking with Subaru Canada, the BBB and CANVAP, reading about Subaru issues on the net trying to determine what it might be myself... The Regional Rep. is coming to the dealership to drive the car on Monday and make some kind of decision. The whole affair has taken a significant toll on my health and well-being.

This has been one of the top 3 most miserable mistakes/experiences of my life bar none. Stressed, can't sleep properly, totally distracted at work, just can't get my mind off of how I could cock myself up like this, and it only cost me my old goody and 4 or 5 months wages. What a deal!

I have to wait until Tuesday for the Service Manager to come back from holiday so I can discuss getting my Jetta (which is still on the lot and been put on hold for me) and some of my money back. Unless they just come right out and offer me a new car on Monday, which I doubt, this seems like a best case scenario to me.

Please forgive me for I have sinned. Actually I've thrown an expensive, cocked-up wrench into my whole life over the last couple of weeks so please wish me luck. I hope to be back, funny some of you have proclaimed this already, I hope you're right.

P.S. For some strange reason my image of the car on ImageShack has disappeared. I hope it's a sign of things to come...

Wow, sorry to hear about the bad experience. Thinking of going back to the Jetta?

Well, after three weeks of stress, it's over.

Subaru Canada deemed that the noises are normal because they can't fix them. This deceleration noise is very common with the 5 speed trannys in these cars but not in the new ones and not to the extent I was experiencing it. I work where these things come off the boat and the most I've been able to get out of any of them is a very slight buzz. Many subaru owners are not happy with it and many are just resigned to it I suppose because Subaru can't do anything about it. It went from "Yeah, we hear it and it's not normal" when I first demonstrated the problem to the Service Manager and the first "tech" to "It's perfectly normal" in the end.

So, that's what it's like to own a Subaru... Never again.

I just traded the car in on a 09 Rabbit Trendline plus some cash. I was trying to get my old J-Wagon back but they had already put it through their shop. They had literally cut my Evolution Skid Plate off and replaced it with a stock VW plastic one because they couldn't figure-out how to get it off to change the oil. Yes, the oil, guess what they changed it with? Castrol 5w30 synthetic is all they could tell me. The shop foreman didn't have a clue about 505.01 or apparently anything for that matter. I guess someone else will have to deal with that time bomb.

So a Rabbit gasser it is then. Thanks to all for their interest in the matter and if you ever want to buy a Subaru you'll get what you deserve I guess. Many people really like them but many have a lot of negative things to say. After reading about them on the internet for a couple of weeks Subaru is now a four letter word as far as I'm concerned.

Cheers!

Buddy if that's your greatest regret then you're either really young or you lead a charmed life.

Who said anything about a "greatest regret", self-inflicted bad luck and a great learning experience after all (albeit expensive)? I know I lead a charmed life, it doesn't take some wise-acre to bring that to light fortunately.

Signed, an x-owner of a PD TDI now running around with the wrong engine oil and being sold by Don Docksteader Volvo/Subaru on Cambie St. Beware.
