i'm working on getting this piece shipped from germany as i cannot find anything new in the states for reasonable money.
wondering how @emus528 is doing?
Are you sure it was wrong before? My old Golf had a BKD and I'm pretty sure it was the other way around to my current CBAB turbo, although my car is RHD.Fixed it for you.![]()
It’s much less common to delete the ASV and usually something you would have to ask tuner for specifically because you got a “racepipe” that deletes both EGR valve and the ASV. Never heard of it being the default.Thank you @borninabus!
- If it can be fixed by tweaking the tune, why isn't that the more typical type of tune? These tunes have been around for quite a while now, so it seems that would have been updated somehow and become the new typical tune.
- Do most people just live with it?
- Is a rougher shutdown a significant risk to the engine?
oh my! this is the most cleanest and most tastefully done common rail diesel I ever have seen!
Wow, thanks for kind words! It’s just a hobby of mine, but I’m a bit of a perfectionist - I do software development for work. The forum and its members have helped me immensely even if indirectly. This one is my daily so gets good use toooh my! this is the most cleanest and most tastefully done common rail diesel I ever have seen!

I've owned 2 rawtek exhaust equipped TDIs. One with the cat and one straight pipe. The straight pipe one was stinkier. Especially when cold. The cat makes a difference. Cat one you can drive in traffic with all the windows down. Not so much with the other. Are all cats created equal? Probably not. The rawtek one is definitely constructed nice.I'm still here. It is interesting how some deleted owners say that their cars don't smell.
Make sure to post updates and let us know how it does.I'll install this one and see how it goes (smells). I don't see an option to purchase a cat only on the Rawtek site. I f the ID Parts cat doesn't satisfy, I'll call them.
Hello. If you remove your cats will the exhaust smell any different? I was told it would stink like rotten eggs. How much HP would you gain? Will it still pass emissions?OP, I'm curious about what exactly you find offensive about the exhaust on this car vs your old diesels. It's not a sulfide-eggy smell, but is it the sort of sharp smell that sort of makes you crinkle your nose and feel like you have a tickle in your throat that makes you feel like coughing? If you hold a sheet of white paper up to your exhaust while someone starts the car, do you get a yellowish color coming out of the tailpipe?
I ask because it almost sounds like your car could be outputting more NOX than it ordinarily should. And because I recently was behind a deleted pickup on the highway belching yellow exhaust for almost a mile before whatever tune he had changed the fuel-air ratio.
Also, my understanding of the high flow cats is that they perform the same chemistry as the stock cats on the mid pipe, but are wider, with a less restrictive lattice to accommodate the soot they're going to see in a filter-free car. They aren't DOCs, so they won't finish off unburnt fuel, but they should knock down at least the hydrogen sulfide.
