Slow speed driving skills competition

The course is mapped and ready to go. This event will be held in the park in the first half of the parking lot. If you wish to run, please post so I can start a sign up sheet and assign car numbers. Cars and drivers need to meet in the park for a 8:00 am drivers meeting, you will then be given 15-20 minutes to walk the course. Cars will run in the order of number given, if you are not ready, you go to the end of the line and take a 5 second penalty. There will be different classes based on car model.
Remember this is a slow speed competition, not an all out autocross. We will have a little twist to ensure speeds are not excessive.

What exactly is slow speed driving skills?

Basically it's an autocross but with out the speed associated with that. In this event there will be tight turns, narrow parking and alot of driving in reverse. You will do your best to avoid cones and finish in the best time.

John, here is another idea for the last segment where we still had some extra room. Of course the Chicago drivers will claim it is perfectly acceptable to hit the cones while parallel parking. I once saw a guy in a porsche park into the tightest possible spot on the streets outside of Wrigley. He must have hit the car in front and in back of him 5 times each to get into the spot. The way he was bouncing the Porsche off those vehicles, you'd swear he stole it, but no one would take that much time parking a stolen car.

Ok, really now - it was really fum being the last guy on the course and knowing what I had to beat for a time. Thanks all it was a blast! (now I just need to win the road rally course tomorrow!)

Yes, "newguy" won. He managed the tight course in his Jetta wagon running up a time of 1 minute 26 seconds without hitting a single cone. My brother "eschady" had a time of 1 minute 20 seconds, but he managed to clobber 10 cones. Ernie with the Silver NB with the huge wing ran the slowest time but I think all that downforce slowed him down. "lug nut" tried and tried and tried to make it through the course with out hitting a cone, then he tried again and again (he never did run it clean). Sorry Jon. Naomi had the best female run in her boyfriends (i hope I got that right) new 05 Jetta. I belive she only hit 1 cone. I forget your name, and this might be better for you, but someone kept making up his own course. Needless to say even he had fun. I was the only one to damage their vehicle, I bounced the front rim off the curb in the backing section.
I think the people watching this activity had as much fun as those driving.

jachady, Naomi and I Had a great time driving in the comptetion, plus it gave me a good excuse to break in my 3000 mile engine.

I am "I forget your name" and I am man enough to admit it. I just thought "My" course was better than yours. The last time I did something like that (with cones, on an official course) was in 1972. I was 16 years old, driving a 1967 Beetle. They had a "good" course. I didn't get lost once.

Maybe it's my short term memory.

But I may have had the most fun.

I am also the one who the police officer, at the finish line, asked me to step out of the vehical to take some tests. I think he was kidding.

I've just got to share this. My 16 year old son was with me over the weekend. He loves cars. Got a 2000 GTI GLX 4 months before his birthday. Now, he'd like to sell it and get a TDI. If only we could find one within a few hour drive of Milwaukee for under 8k dollars.

Anyway, he emailed this to me last night and I really want to share it:

those guys make too hard of courses i think first the
slow speed driving course then the road rally. They
might have just been preying on the slow witted. You
should change your handle to nav man on that site.
that was definitly a fun weekend, id do it with you
again next year if its close and definitly if i end up
getting one of those tdi's then ill be the one callin
people gassers. next time im over you'll have to show
me the pictures you took at the fest.
