Last year and after some back and forth I had agreed to a $70/year subscription, but I just received an invoice for $153 for next year? Did anyone else have this surprise too?

Did your contract auto renew?

If so, it will renew at the current full subscription price.

Never allow auto renew. It basically reduces any chances of a discount to zero.

Call up and cancel. Be firm. I really wanted to cancel and it took over an hour on the phone and FIVE people to actually make it happen. You can cave in and give them money at whatever rate you feel comfy with.

They offered half off for a year, I just wanted to cancel (really!) so they offered 75% off for six months. I still wanted to just cancel.... finally they allowed me to cancel.

If you deal with these people, use a one time CC number so that they cannot auto renew at full price. (That is allowed in the contract!)

Good luck!

No one pays the full Sirius rate. You don't need to spend an hour on the phone. Just don't renew and the discount offers will come pouring in via phone calls and mailings.

Your $70 / year rate is one of the current renewal offerings I received recently.

Just got off the phone with them. I said I wanted to cancel, and without further questions I was offered another year at $77 promotion rate, which I accepted. I really don't use their service all too much, just some international news now and then…

all you need to do is mark 2 weeks to the date prior to signing up, call 2 weeks prior to tell them your cancelling and they'll give you the 77 deal, comes out to about 90 a year with the tax's etc. I've been doing it for years

I did exactly this. Clarified with the operator that the auto-renew was at the full rate, hung up the phone, immediately created a calendar event 2 weeks prior to the expiration of my 1 year term to cancel. I'm sure they'll offer another year at the discounted rate.

Last week a $157 charge showed up on our cc bill from Sirius. My wife called and found this was for one radio  (we have 2). And asked why this was auto renewed because she never authorised it. They told her that because she paid with a card last time they automatically renew with that card. She then told them to cancel both subscriptions and she was calling the cc company to report it as a fraud. They put her through the ringer,,, by the time it was over they gave her both subscriptions for a year for $88.00 :D. She then called the credit card company and reported the original charge as fraudulant.

They did it to me this week also.......I just got off the phone with them.....I called and asked to cancel.....and he asked if I was cancelling because I got billed at the regular rate....I said yes! He said if I offered it at the regular rate I would renew! I said yes he renewed it for the same as I paid last year! He also told me it was a 1 time charge and if I didn't want to get charged full again to cancel before the new date next year 16 minutes on the phone....very refreshing!

I'll use a one time use CC to avoid that, or, tell them no credit card to mail you a bill for it

When I renewed mine I refused to give them a CC# and told them to cancel if they required one (they at first said CC# required). they mailed me a bill (extra $2 charge) and I sent them a check. But now its been 15 months with no renewal notice and system still working.
I want to cancel and not renew anyway cause there are as many ads on Sirius as on the radio now anyway. and the ads seem to be mostly stud enhancement. but the wife likes it and wants to keep it. The Sirius I mean. maybe she's trying to tell me something ???

Use your calender apps to give you warning !!

Sirius subscribers should make an entry in their computer and phone calender apps that will warn them to cancel before the auto-renewal trap is tripped on their expiration day.

I am days away from my free trial. I've called several times asking about the $77 renewal & they said it's not available. I asked to speak to a retention specialist to no avail. All of the mailings I've rec'd have the full price. Do I just need to hold out?

I've been without Sirius for around 11 months. I just got a letter today saying they are reactivating my radio in a week, free for two weeks with 60 channels. I can call up to have 5 months for $25 (with 130 channels), with the reactivation fee waived. This offer apparently ends on June 30th.
Without Sirius, we've been surviving (somehow!) with the multi-disc CD/MP3 player and iPods with media loaded on them.

Don't call to ask about a discount - they'll say there aren't any. Call and threaten to cancel, and tell them the reason is the service is far too expensive. Suddenly, there will be discounts...

It's a free trial from buying the car. They basically said the service will be cut off if I don't renew at the full price. So I'm not really canceling anything. At least not that I was paying for. Hopefully holding out will work. I hope it doesn't get cut off for long. I never thought I would like it this much.

OK, still same story. Don't call them. If they don't have your CC number (and they shouldn't, during the trial), wait for them to contact you. Then tell them no, because your service is too expensive. Be patient, as the good discount may require one or two refusals. When they get to a price you are happy with, either give them a one-time CC number, or tell them to bill you. That way they won't auto-renew at the full rate later.

I didn't use the service much at all (SD card FTW!), and refused to renew on that basis. Still got several attractive discount offers.

My Sirius subscription lapsed this monday. I had already told them no thanks to the "get one month for free" phone call offer I received.

Sure enough, 2 days after my subscription lapsed, I got an email with the offer for 50% off a full year (~$70) "when subscribed with a credit card and auto-renew"!

Just wait em out.

Looks like tomorrow is my expiration date. So I should be hearing something about a better offer by the end of the week.

If they have your contact info, I imagine they might reach out to you. $70 is better than $0. According to a website on satellite radio, they get ~46% of the free trial subscriptions to convert to paying at the end of the term.

Try and get the $70/yr deal without giving them your credit card for auto-renewal. That is what I did last year and will do the same when my subscription needs renewing in a month or so. Tell them to send you a paper bill.

This is what I did for my MZB.. For my JSW, I will do the same in a couple of weeks when the free trial runs out...$70 AND a check. Otherwise, I will cancel both...I don't really like Sirius/XM that much anyway.

here's the fine print on the email I received. The phone # in the email is: 1-866-635-5013

Maybe if you call, you'll get lucky. My email included both my radio # and my account #, so they may ask you for your info. Can't hurt to try.

my subsription runs out in July.

I called today after weekend mailer about autorenewal and asked to cancel sirius everything.

Intersting in that a reference number isn't provided for tracking the cancellation.

Let the summer subscription games begin in July.

You'll get a letter. Tells you date. Tell them promo code is SAVE. They said no, no, no discount. I said magic word from another thread and the sun broke through. Funny I had to search threads while on phone with supervisor. They waited until I found. They weren't going to give in without the code. I was laughing at them, I was so shocked at their attitude. I told them that I would just shut it down and listen to Pandora. They didn't budge until I said "save."
