I have a new 2006 Jetta TDI (LOVE IT). One small concern. Does anyone know why the radio refuses to increase the volume at around halfway? It is the Package 2 option radio. Also the radio seems to adjust itself constantly (vol up or down). It seems as if it is trying to protect the speakers at certain bass/treble levels. And no this has nothing to do with the speed compensated volume. Any info on how to turn this feature off? I cant find anything in the owners manual.
PS... I got 53.5 mpg on the way into work today. Gotta love the Germans!

I think you've got yourself a bum radio. Unless somebody else here chimes in that knows something I don't about the mkv radios, I'd give the dealer a call. They'll be glad to replace it for you :)

My 06 is the same way. It seems to limit volume to save the speakers. I've got pkg 1 with Sirius in it.

so does anyone know if this can somehow be turned off? It is quite annoying to me to have the volume adjust itself constantly.

limit volume to save speakers? what kind of system do you people have  ?? limit volume to save my ears, if anything...this stock system is more than i could ask for! wasnt there a thread where someone got a ticket for loud music?
btw, i dont know what package i have, but its monsoon, and theres an amp in the back. way:cool:
i know if you hold the dolby button, you get a hidden menu for speed volume adjustment (or something) but thats about the only feature i know of on this radio...

My 2006 Jetta Pkg II with Sirius does not act as described. I think you have a problem to be discussed with your service department. Good luck!

There is a setting for "speed sensitivve volume control"--I didn't like the way mine worked, so I turned it off.
Just hold down the "Tune" button for a few seconds, and the option menu will show up; just flip to that screen and shut it off
