Timing belt dates: Aug 3rd, 4th, & 5th (2007).
UPDATED LIST as of Aug 01. -
Not too sure what to do here. There are some issues:
1) Cloudbase1 has limp mode problems and does not know if he'll make it. He also has not purchased a TB kit. Aaron, have you packed an extra kit or two?
2) If Cloudbase1 does not show, then the current alternate, Rosannah, has not contacted me about whether she will attend (6AM or otherwise). Ibanix, are you willing to show-up at 6AM? If there are no-shows at 6AM, then I will put my car on the ramps and vacate my 6PM slot for anyone who does show-up (whether that be Rosannah or Ibanix, or someone else...).
3)
RC_y2kws6ta (Rob) still has problems that will hopefully be resolved by the time his appointment comes around.

Ibanix removed from Sat. alternate list and added to Sun. alternate as Rosannah has not responded.

Oldpoopie (Justin) will be our guest mechanic.

This work will take place in Sacramento. PM me for address.

You all know the drill. Order your belt kits now (In alphabetical order: BleachedBora, dieselgeek, impex, metalman, tdiparts, etc) and have cash to pay for TB Guru services.

Friday August 3:
1. 9:00AM NewTdi (Andrew)
2. 12:00PM Ruking 03 Jetta (Rick)
3. 3:00PM Sacramento TDI (marvin)
4. 6:00PM Gage - '98 Jetta

Saturday August 4th:
1. 6:00AM dok (David) Possible trade for 2PM slot???
2. 10:00AM moonlite 03 Golf (Charlie)
3. 2:00PM RC_y2kws6ta (Rob) Possible trade for 6AM slot???
4. 6:00PM "Jacky The Dog" 2002 ALH
5. ***ALTERNATE*** OPEN***

Sunday August 5th:
1. 6:00AM Cloudbase1 :D:D:D:eek: Questionable attendance (read above for workaround) Cloudbase1, please call me with a Saturday update.
2. 10:00AM Petrofied 02 Jetta (Bart)
3. 2:00PM 4Gman 00 Jetta (Dave)
4. 6:00PM 02AutoWag (Russ)
5. ***ALTERNATE*** Rosannah via PM OR Ibanix***As oldpoopie stated: "understand that there is no guarantee that I'll have the time, or the stamina, to do the job. If I'm feeling it, I'll do it. They will just have to wait and see".***

There you go. All other previously interested participants have either decided to put off their belt change for the next event (possibly Feburary), or have possible conflicting activities.

For those intending on getting belt changes...Have you ordered your timing belt kits??? BleachedBora seems to be offering up a value packed kit.

3.

Mine still LOOKS good but. . I don't know whether it was changed 20k or 97k miles ago to be honest. It had a new head put on by the previous owner at about 65kish and I would ASSUME they'd drop on a new timing belt as it was done by people who knew what they were doing so. . . but why not, it's easy on a A3

I may be in. I'm working on diagnosing a engine squeal that is either the t-belt rubbing or a bad tensioner. If it is the tensioner, I'll probably be in for a whole belt replacement.

Good job guys.

Scott - My belt has been sqeaky for about 6K miles, it also has 75K on it, hence the need to change.

Gage - Not too sure about non-TDIs, we'll ask Pete or Justin when the time comes.

I hope to be welcoming Zack to our SFBA group. We met in the parking lot at work and I informed him of this site.

Keep the interest up. It looks like we may be just at the minimum number of belts needed to get Pete out here, but we all know he's capable of performing many more jobs.

I think I'm going to sit this one out. My belt just started squealing about 200 miles ago and I'm taking the bus to work most of the time now. If i wasn't so busy for the next 2 months I'd go ahead now, but I'll wait until the next round .

sthussey, I wouldn't wait on that, it might take a while to get another TB GTG going. We just had a big one back in January so it's unlikely there will be enough to bring a Guru after this go around for quite some time.

I don't need a TB but I'll be happy to come socialize and offer moral support if I'm not otherwise engaged on the choosen day.

The next TB GTG, the one after this, will probably be in Feb '08 in Walnut Creek.

The last GTG was such a blast and a complete success, from my point of view, that I am committed to have an event once a year...or until we run out of belts !

Pete, our 'resident' TB expert will be the star of the show and we'll be trying to bust the '20 belt's in a weekend' mark.

Jonathan's event took care of 17 belts in one weekend, leaving none for this event...:p We need more belt changes or this event will not happen.

I already made arrangements (and pre-paid) to have Old Poopie in PDX do the work on my car. I am at 91620 miles and will be about 8 weeks before reaching the magical number.

I have been waiting for this GTG since the last one. I have the swishing sound when she is cold. But… if I drip a few drops of water on the belt… it goes away and then comes back after a minute. Should I buy all the possible parts needed for the repair and then take them back if not needed?

Just updating the list, Moonlite just cut me off the list. Looks likes we have possible of 8-9 belts, Are these enough to schedule with pete?

I PMd Pete at 6 belts and again today. I'll pass on any information I get. We may need to secure at least 1-2 more belts though.

If anyone would like to host this event, please let me know. I've bounced a PM back to a member who has offered, but haven't heard if he's going to accept.

My Dad offered to let us host the GTG at their place if we do the timing belt on his gasser beetle. They are in Danville and have a large air compressor and a lift.

I pmd a response to Russ earlier.
Bottom line is that I'd love to come and do it, but I'm not nearly as ambitious as DBW. I'd only want to do 3, maybe 4 each day. Commiting to 2 days, perhaps 3 days if it looks like we need it.

Rules would be as during previous GTGs.

4 slots will be allocated per day starting at 6:00 each morning. A late Friday evening sign up or two are possible if the weekend does not suit someone, starting after 5 pm !

Participants are required to have their belt kits at least a week ahead of this event. or Arrange with Bleachedbora for a kit to be there for you. The kit must be a full 100k kit as is available from all the usual suspects.

You are required to be at the event AT LEAST 45 mins. before your time slot. Your engine must be clean. Please power wash/spray wash: do whatever you need to do to ensure that the engine is clean. This means REMOVE THE ENGINE COVER.

As for what weekend, I think it would have to be the weekend of august 3rd/4th/5th. I need to know ASAP as I'll have to put in for vacation days for friday the 3rd and sat the 4th.

I could also do the weekend of August 17th/18th/19th

If july is a must, I might, and it depends on my boss, be able to get the weekend of july 13th/14th/15th

I've been working on it behind the scenes. Pete is unavailable until September 4th, so oldpoopie (Justin) will be our guest mechanic.

We'll just need to settle on dates...

July 13/14/15
August 3/4/5
August 17/18/19

No knocking of Justin, but he freely admits not being able to work as fast as Pete (I doubt anyone can!), so that limits us to 3-4 belts per day. Given the number of requests this may mean he needs to be here for three days...

So this brings us to what I imagine is our greatest hurtle...who is able to have work done on your car on a Friday??? If we can get three cars to be dropped off at a single location for Friday work, that would be AWESOME!

I usually carpool to work, so my car can be made free on any given Friday...question is what location to drop it off at?

Also, July 14 is booked and July 15 is my wife's birthday (see says if I can send her away with her friends so that I can have that day if need be).

Discuss...

My work schedule is flexible so I could have mine worked on on a Friday.
What about your father's car? Actually, I don't know if Justin is able to work on gassers...Justin?

If yes, can your father host it? What about an additional car; any volunteers for Danville on a Friday?
