I am trying to decide if I want to just get a nice phone cradle for my phone to use for navigation, etc, or do I bite the bullet and do a new head unit with Android auto to accomplish the same thing? Just fear how a phone cradle could hinder the use of some operations depending on location. But it would be far cheaper!

We just moved to Central Cali and for some reason, the radio stations here are horrible. Yes, the music sucks for some, but the range for all. Seems I can't keep any one station for more than 10 miles and that seems to be across the entire state?? And there really is only a couple stations I would be listening to anyway. Playing music thru bluetooth isn't the most convenient operation either and quality is low. Not sure a new radio would fix that or not??

Thanks!

It’s not a cradle, but I like the Steelie Nite Ize Orbit style, nice and small and simple, though mounting depends what your dash is like I guess, I have a MKIV and it works well for me. There are cheaper brands than Steelie too of course, I’ve used one from PrimeCables before.
Kinda like this:

I use a ProClip dash mount and iPhone adjustable holder in my 2010 MK6 Golf TDI and in my 2019 MK7.5 Golf R. Below is a link to a video of the installation. It looks like the Panavise mount above ends up in the same place. In the MK6 Golf TDI it's an ideal position for using the phone in the car. In my MK7.5 Golf R it mounts a little lower, but still is fine for using in the car.

+1 same here. Proclips in both my MK6 Golf and NMS Passat (had the passat one first and was pleased enough I got the same thing for golf years later without even looking at other options). Very solid/nice quality mounts. Not able to post pics at the moment but can do when I’m back home in a week or so.
