Trying to track down the alarm spontaneously going off.
When I open each of the four doors when the car is "dark", the interior light comes on.

It does NOT come on, though, when I open the hatch (2003 Golf). I don't have a "control" subject in the driveway anymore, so just wondering what "normal" behaviour is; if light is supposed to come on with hatch opening, then I know the hatch switch is probably the culprit.

If not...the search continues.

My '02 does not turn on the interior passenger lights when opening the hatch, only the light in the trunk area. Hope this helps. The alarm going off might be from one of the door microswitches registering open for a brief second or check the hood sensor as that will trigger the alarm too. VCDS would instantly tell you which was the culprit.

The hatch also wasn't opening / unlocking with the key fob, so I figured that might be the likely culprit. Took that apart last night, replaced the little servo so now unlocking works, but alas...alarm isn't working properly. It won't "arm" itself when I lock the car.

I didn't see any errors when I scanned the car after first getting it, but just realized now that I haven't put VCDS to the car since the alarm issue. Thanks for making me think of that! For sure I'll take a look there once the downpour subsides here.
