so I am at 123,000+ km on my 03 jetta. I have to go to moose jaw for school in October for 2 months. With this in mind should I get it done before then or after?

also were is a good place to get it done and how much will it set me back?

I would wait myself. Saskatchewan to Moose Jaw is no big deal, mileage wise. I had my 2003 TB done at about 148,000 kilometres. Recommended is 160,000. Youve got a couple of years unless you do do serious mileage every year. There are excellent places in Calgary but you'll be looking at $800+. Another reason to delay the work,.

By 140,000 I would look into getting it done. 160,000 is the recommended change, but is your engine worth the extra 20,000 km's?
Depending on how much you drive your car, you probably still have about a year before you have to worry about it.

I'm getting mine done around 115,000 km on a 2003 ALH. I am more concerned about the age in years of the belt and would rather not take the risk.

I just did my 2003 ALH at 154,000km.

Belt, tensioner, rollers, and water pump were all in great shape - I'm sure they would have lasted at least another year/20,000km.

20k km's ain't worth the worry or the money in my eyes. Now in saying that be careful where you get it done as well. My dad had an 03 wagon TDi that at around 100,000 km's he got the belt done at the dealer in Toronto. The Dealer in Richmondhill if I remember correctly. The tech didn't torque one of the pulley bolts enough and 10,000 km's after he got it done the car died on the side of the 407. Took it back to the dealer where they replaced the head on the engine and redid everything under the parts warranty. He started it up, and noticed that it didn't sound like what it was suppose to, so he turned around traded it in insisting that they had replaced half the engine and tranny in the last 10,000 km's so he should get top dollar. Got an 06 wagon PD and top money for his car, but the poor soul that ended up with that last wagon is going to have problems. So watch where you go to get it done and make sure they know what they are doing!
