Should I be considering the mkvi?

The EA288 has TWO electric water pumps, in addition to the variable flow mechanical one. One is an after run pump, the other is for the charge air cooling (going from memory). I know the one down low in the front will continue to run for a while if the engine is hot. That's the one I unplug and move the harness to the side so the filter drain doesn't make a mess. But I always wait until it stops running which can be 20 minutes.

Most modern VAG gassers have an after run pump too. They have for years.

I have an 03 MB CR and it is pretty sweet.. even with 2003 era hoops to jump.

Inject 80% fresh air into the 20% TDI exhaust stream to achieve 7.3L type volume and cut PPM.. I think you're on to something there.
Thats hillarious! That acually made it past EPA?! ha. Older gas smog pumps added oxigen to burn off the unburnt hydrocarbons. Diesel seems so counterintuitive sometimes.

Didn't know about the electric pumps, Brian. I guess they don't break often, otherwise I would. :)

@Jello No.. two separate comments. That 2nd part about the 80% was just a joke.

IIRC the MB got an ECU recall, I wouldn't be surprised if it was emissions related and spurred on by the VW dieselgate publicity. They sent me a notice that I would not be able to reg or smog test until I "upgraded" the ECM.

@IndigoBlueWagon Yes, the inline 5 cylinder one.

I have not seen any of those pumps fail yet on the CVCA or CRUA, but I have seen one go bad on a CKRA. They are monitored, and will set a DTC.

Now Prius electric pumps... LOL... like every other day here, and they are a pain in the butt and EXPENSIVE! And if you ignore the 'Triangle of Death', they'll just cook in the inverter! :D

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't 2012 the first year of TPMS using Anti-Lock rings instead of tire sensors?

Im almost baffled that the 2015 would be more reliable considering the the trend of the mkiv being peak and downhill from there. I wouldn't rule it out completely. avoiding 09 and 10 should be easy. Some of the failure articles under this sub forum are why I was/am somewhat skeptical of the mkvi Is nothing known about the mkvii failures since they werent out as long or is it proven to be a stronger platform? The mileage claims seem legit!
The Mk7 has proven to, at least, make more power and demonstrate better head flow characteristics. If you're modding, the def is a moot point anyway. If you're going to keep the car BONE STOCK, MK7 is the better choice. If you're going to mod, MK6s are perfectly reliable minus the emissions system, which again, is moot if you're modding. The HPFP issues are there, but also a bit more exaggerated just do to the nature of what forums even are. Indigo will happily sell you parts for whichever platform you choose ;)

yep the MK6 CJAA itself is as reliable as ALH once its deleted and tuned plus CP3 pump then you are golden. I also have B7 (2015 CVCA Passat) she has been reliable....... so far. She is deleted and tuned with Malone stage 2 tune. that saying, the 2015's DSG do have far better gearing than MK6's. hence better MPG.

2010-2014 JSW/Golf/Jetta Sedans have CJAA. They are the MK6 family.

the 2012-14 Passats have CKRA. (I'd steer clear of them due to turbos failing and severely backordered nationwide, in my opinion. at the "stock state" with DPF that kills the turbos left and right with EPA mandated emission programmed fix) if they are deleted, they should be way better as in helping the turbo breathe better.

For Mk6 owners who live in an area where an emissions delete is a viable option, what's the cost of a delete, tune, and CP3 upgrade?

I’ve owned a 2011 and a 2013 (current), ran up to about 160k pre-DG and took the cash, needed a daily for work and found a 13 for a good deal a few years later. 0 issues with either of them, 13 is currently at 140k. Both 6M, no mods done to either. Have plans for the emissions delete/stage 2, the driving characteristics are definitely different post DG.

Not sure what kind of deal you‘re looking for on the mk6, but I purchased my 2 door 6M for around 7k with 100k miles.

I would be happy to buy one for 7k Unfortunately haven't seen them that cheap recently. I'm flexible A well maintained manual 4 door I'd be all over it at this point. I would delete emissions down the road as well. Sooner the better for what it's worth. I'm shopping for both mkiv and mkvi at this point

I searched pretty hard for a good deal on a 4 door and just could not find one. This was around a year ago. Good luck!

tjg My wife would stab me in my sleep. I have a b5 s4 torn apart in the garage right now and a project truck at my parents

mk6 I would do a 2 door if it was the right price. I have a baby on the way that's why 4 door is ideal

if you do it all yourself, roughly $2k plus sell DPF for 750-900 dollars to few DPF recyclers online. gotta be smart.
