Noticed my wife's Beetle TDI is starting slower, so I checked out the battery. Found the negative post covered with "fur" (corrosion). Cleaned it off to find the top case of the battery is cracked around the negative post.

So, two questions:

What battery and where to get a deal in the south bay area?

How the heck do you get the battery out of a Beetle?

Looks like the power steering reservoir needs to come off to slip the battery out.

Howdy to Peter (damn foreigner), Norman, the rest of you guys. Been a long time.

There are pretty extensive battery threads here. I know, I just had to replace my wifes battery on her 02 Jetta. So I can tell you that a good place is Batteries Plus and it'll cost about $90 bucks. But sorry, I can't tell you how to get yours out. Good luck!

Costco in S.S.F has a group -36, which I think fits A-4 TDI, and I believe is around $58.00, I have checked in other Costco and I haven't seen that group 36-, battery,

Another vote for Batteries Plus if you can find one. Call ahead and ask if they have the right one because the one near me only stocks one at a time! For the Golf/Jetta TDI its a 94R, not sure about your beetle. They had a $5 coupon on their website also when I bought mine and installed it for $10. I think the battery is regularly priced at about $89.

True, you can find a Costco battery for less that will fit, but make sure its the right specs.

Allegedly VW dealers sell the correct battery for about $100
