Looks like VW is finally stepping up to the problem with the air bag wiring connectors under the seats. Just got my campaign letter in the mail today. Looks like they will be doing the inspection and repair free of charge untill January 14, 2013 (doesn't matter the world is supposed to end December 22 2012 anyways, right lol).

I've already had my passanger side plug replaced. Thats right, they replaced my plug, they didn't hardwire the wires together like some have had done. I'm thinking that they must have been working on this campaign at that time, and where instructed to repair it with a new plug.

They also sent a reimbursement form with the service letter. So if you paid for this repair out of your pocket looks like you will be reimbursed. Good luck ladies and gents.

They did this fix for me in 2007 free of charge. But that was my fault, I unplugged the connecteor which connects to the floor just 'to have fun' and see what happens. I ended up having an airbag light in a car which was still under warranty.

I just got the same letter for both my cars. Is this something I should be running around in a general panic trying to get fixed, or is there no problem unless you have an airbag light? In other words, can I let this slide until I care to find the time to go to the dealer?

My airbag light in the dash came on january 19 , the letter from VW arrived the 22nd.

Does anyone know what models and years are included? I would like to get my light off and still have functioning air bags. (2005.5 model NB)

There's no problem unless you got an airbag light.

There ya go! I'm not going to the service department until the annunciator illuminates ... or I get w/in about 30 days of the "suspense."

Don't fix it if it ain't broke.
