Hi everyone...

I have looked and searched and I am getting conflicting information.

I need to know how much fuel the tank can hold in a Jetta Pk2 2005.5 TDI.

I am not asking for the fuel capacity as specified in the manual...I know that...but I would like a definitive capacity from fueling up to the brim...to include waiting for foam to dissipate and topping off to the max.

Thanks again!!!!!!!

BTW...reason I am asking is because I am too chicken to run this baby out of fuel right now.....

Regards!

I DO NOT recommend you try it.... but I think I remember it is just what the manual says. (15.5 +/- gallons US.??) Not from experience, but from others' previous posts.
Why the need for such accuracy? Inquiring minds and all.........

????????

15.5 from the manual????????

I want to know the exact volume for my next attempts at how far I can push this puppy for the mileage competition.

I was a disbeliever 2 months ago.....but now heck its easy to get 50+MPG...now I have to see how far I can go on a single tank...FILLED TO THE BRIM...remember the 2005.5's cant do the ventectomy so I need folks that have run this thing dry.....

Regards:)

it's 15.5 gal. First hand experience here having filled a couple of times with 15.480.
If you want to run it dry make sure you bring a brand new fuel filter with you.

15.5 for the 2005.5? I would assume that the 06 you have shares the same tank/neck correct?

I've filled with 56.5L or so... Getting awefully worried on the bridge over to where my favourite fuel station is. (B20 on tap, and it's $0.02/L cheaper than dino, woot!)

Fuel tank (and related parts) was not subject to the VIN split 2005/2006.
It was 1K0 201 060 FL in 2005.5 as it continues to be in 2006 and 2007 (including 2006.5).

You should be aware that running your fuel tank dry is not a great idea and my shorten the life of you fuel pump, which is cooled by the fuel it pumps.

I thought the manual said 14.5. I have added 15.2 before though.
I think you are correct. I've only put 14.7 or so in mine but I've heard of people here putting 15.4-15.5 in.

Once or twice I wouldn't think would hurt it. I wouldn't do it on a continual basis though. The pump does seem to be mounted vertically into the tank opening. It would be running uncovered to some extent from 3/4 to empty anyway. Some amount of redundancy must be built in for the "fueling challenged" and the "mpt crowd" consumers out there. :)

Personnaly, I don't see the obsession with "how many miles per tank can I go?". Just having a diesel vs. gasser, feeling about as safe as one can hope in a small sedan (thanks to great engineering and lots of airbags), being able to "excercise" the turbo at will - and I do...alot, having the ability to run the air conditioner with almost no regard for affecting my mileage, commuting 95 miles per day at 80 - 85 mph, and STILL getting no less than 42 mpg makes me happier than stink.
Pushing the fuel tank once the gauge gets in the red and the little light goes on just makes me too nervous - no point in risking any damage or anything for such a frivoulous goal.

I'll try to be clearer.

From what OTHER people have posted in the past...

THE MANUAL appears to be CORRECT on an A5 chassis regarding the fuel tank capacity. (05.5 and newer cars.)

You seem dissapointed....

I'm with you CAD. I start thinking about filling up once I get to the 1/2 mark because the bottom half doesn't measure up plus I probably need to stop out of necessity.

Strangely enough, I normally get very good mileage using this method. ;-)

I know mine is at least 15.4 gals, as I have put that much in one time, It still had fuel in it, from what I can tell, 15.5-15.6 is about it..Good luck running it out...I have never done this yet.

Getting a Jetta 2005.5 TDI soon
Why don't you go to someplace where you can siphon out your tank and then fill it from there. That's going to be as close to dry as you'll ever find. You could even use a drill powered pump, should be okay with diesel.

You probably want a little 2 gal yellow canister.

I've added 15.6 gallons before (550mi city tank). I'm convinced it has a 16 gallon actual capacity tank. I also fuel the car till I see the biodiesel gurgle into the filler neck since I can't vent.

Yellow is for diesel. Red is for gas.
I haven't been able to find a little yellow cannister. The smallest yellow ones seem to be 5Gal. I figured the 'FOR THE JETTA ONLY' sign I painted on the 1Gal red cannister should warn anyone authorized to take stuff out of my trunk (if someone steals my 'gas' can out of the car and kills his engine doing it, be my guest).
