Seeking competant, honest, reasonably-priced auto service. Am I asking too much?

Germanoem.ca has EVERYTHING for MKIV and the wreckers/scrapyard like Cookstown Auto relatively near me, has supplied me with a right rear door and brake booster in the not too distant past. So I don't think parts for this vintage of Golf is a problem at all. Just finding people willing to do the work.

Unfortunately it is getting to the point where doing your own wrenching is more of a necessity than an economic choice. We keep a spare MK4 (in addition to parts cars) so said wrenching can at least be done at leisure.

Hardest thing to find is people willing to work on it. It's certainly not the parts. I need a good 'wrench' who's not afraid of a little rust. Seems that's the biggest obstacle of all, for me.

Seems to me your biggest obstacle is how far you are willing/able to go. Perjad and Brandon are willing, not sure if Brandon still has a beater to loan customers but he did at one point.

There's nothing really that special about a MK4, except if it has a diesel engine, and even that isn't too complicated. With a bit of google searching and reading some reviews, you should be able to find someone in and around the Barrie area...

I had a lot of good luck going to TDI club members, none of whom were licenced or certified techs, over the years. but they all quit or moved away. One guy in particular I went to in Huntsville was especially good but he moved to Lethbridge, AB. Plus none charged pro garage rates.

Arent there any club members still doing work?

You know that Cookstown Wreckers shut down, right? ;)

A decent shop is Schnell's in Peterborough. Up until I moved to BC in 2023, Randy is still going and I've always been happy with his work and prices.

Is VDUBBS still in operation? I left a message last week but was never called back. I totally forgot about Precision which is a lot closer to me and if I do not hear back from Mike I'll call Precision to get something done. I'm too old now to be crawling on the floor or on my back to work on my car.

Not sure if he's still operating. Last time I went to him was in 2011. He helped my car get through emissions - pretty decent from what I could tell. It's been over 2 years since I drove past there.

I had considered that guy Brandon who moved his shop up to Orillia from the GTA, but I joined the Navy and moved to the west coast. Heard good things about him though. My go to guy was Schnell's in Peterborough until I moved.

I called Precision today and they are closed until the 17th of this month !
Is there anyone else in the east end of Toronto to go to?
It isn't much I need . An oil/filter change and the drivers side cornereing/fog light removed and a new one installed which I have. Water getting into the OEM.

Amin @ Salim's Auto Repair Inc
999 Eastern Ave, Toronto, ON M4L 1A8
Phone: (416) 463-5464
(Take Kingston Road westbound all the way to the shop.)

A few members have used this VW shop including myself, and it's a good recommended shop for VW's with good mechanics and reasonable pricing. Ask for Amin (owner) .
