Leather vs. Vinyl vs. Cloth - any thoughts?

In the mk5's (CRs), I found the cloth comfortline seats lacked lower back support, while the leather's were just ok.

Best seats, at least for me at 6'3 and a permanently bad back, were in my 2002 Golf... good ole mouse fur :p

As someone who once sold a car 1 month old because the seats were uncomfortable I can say that the new Golf 2015 has SuPer comfortable seats.

Totally subjective thing to figure though obviously but I will say that the support and softness seems to be well balanced and if you have the automatic seats it's almost impossible to not find a comfortable position.

I have the SEL. It is leatherette. I thought it was leather. Everyone who rides in it thinks it's leather. So no issue in that respect. Some people swear by cloth seats...I liked the plaid ones on the GTI..but the side bolstering seemed more pronounced in the cloth ones I tried. The current version, my SEL, does not have that "problem" at all. I'm 5'11 170 lbs and I'm very comfortable on long drives in this car. And I've had Mercedes, Volvos, Hondas, and Infinity. I would say the most comfortable was the Infiniti (boring kind of ride though) but this is a close second. Which i did not expect.

But you gotta try it for yourself. Good luck.

My mouse fur seats got burn holes in them from some cigarette smoking mechanic's ash.

I like leather/vinyl because they won't burn or absorb smells, and they can be cleaned if you spill something on them. Personally, I can't tell the difference between the two.

I have the SEL. It is leatherette.
Question; does the SEL come with "sport" leatherette seats which are different from the regular leatherette? It used to say "sport seats" for the SEL on the website, but now it doesn't. If so, do you know the difference? thanks

I've only taken a 15 minute test drive in an SE, and the seats were very comfortable. Good bolstering without being to huggy.

Mike, the seats are great and comfy just a little constricted for large frame dudes like us.
The side bolsters don't give much but it's not too bad

I have the S trim. Both driver and passenger sides have lumbar adjustment. I am 5'9 and I think the seats would be comfortable for anyone up to 6'0 for sure. I have a friend who is 6'4 and I'll have him play Goldilocks for you.

I'm a little large, 6'1" and 270lbs - the seats are very comfy. We have the S, leatherette/vinyl, they hug on the sides, but it doesn't pinch. Everyone thinks this is leather!

Is there a big difference in the seats from the SE to the SEL? They call them "comfort sport seat" in the SEL.

I am leaning toward getting an SE with the lighting package. The couple extras with the SEL are not to important to me.

The seats are the only reason I'm getting an SEL.

So far I'm liking the Highline leather seats, though as with everyone else I have to agree that they are quite tight if you have a large frame. I'm hoping they'll soften up with a bit once they get broken in.
